Hey guys,
I have used both these kits and have found that my impco setup has lost about 10-15% power and responsiveness on petrol for some reason. I think its got to do with the mixer as it may restrict airflow but not 100% sure So what are the Pro's and Cons of each unit as ive had both a feel there both a great unit, but i see the AIROD not loosing power on petrol as the variable mixer that sits inside the intake pipe. Also my car is a EF XR6 and uses a impco 200 mixer and B2 converter

im working on adapting a impco 425 to the I6....this is a great mixer that will easily outflow the airod...
only prob is its largish size.... would be interesting to compare the airod and 200 on a flowbench....

if u google images u will find heaps
they flow around 290hp which is about 40% better than the 200

actually just looked up the specs
200 flows 276 CFM 425 flows 460 CFM (66% better!!) 225 flows 329 CFM i reckon the 200 is just a fraction too small for a EF 4.0 the other thing is, the airod isnt even in production anymore, impco stuff is everywhere and relatively cheap..

mixer ring setups are the biggest piece of crap design ever
a 40mm ring can only flow 40% of the std TB...I estimate that its only good for 200cfm anything would be an improvement on this... no body in their right mind would use one on a performance engine airod not included

the designe of the fixed mixer was never intended to be for a performance set up in the first place its was a system that was made to suport a positive feed convertor, as the comlpex convetor has the both the idle & sensitivity adjustents on them the ring had to be a given size for the convertor to see a signal for gas flow both @ idle, cruise & W.O.T, by changing the ring size also changed the signal to the convetor so a compermise was made to achive that, the variable mixer was devloped by MED not as a performance upgrade but a solution to supply gas flow & maintain the perfect signal to the convertor for the larger capacity engines, eg V8's & big six clyinder engine like the toyota landcrusiers, a larger internal diamiter was made with a sliding innersleeve just like an SU carbi, having fitted both positive & negative systems & there both good in there own rights I like the using positive set ups as a few people here already know & as for a forced set up I belive that a variable mixer modified & the right convertor will give you good results & without having to spend a huge amount of cash, or if you if you have the $$$ buy the GRA set up, better still go SGI plus theres more to lpg than just the mixers & convertor......
we always knock what we don't understand ! |

well its all academic really unless u can tell us where we buy the variable ring mixer??
that leaves impco and GRA as the only performance option bar injection

gogetta, did you ever manage to fit the 425 to tha falcon?
it could be done using a 4 barrell manifold, but then you may as well buy the GRA gear lol

The 225 really is too small for anything other than a stock engine that does shopping trolley duties only. Cheers ToranaGuy
