G'day All,
have a question, has anybody had trouble filling up the LPG tank on a hot day??? Was a scorcher here and I took the lane to the local servo to top up, and it wouldn't take anything?? Tried both pumps at the servo and got the same error from the bouser "No Flow". The girl behind the counter said that it happened to other's today as well. The car had been sitting out in the sun all day, and the tank was pretty empty. Can the tanks over-pressurise on a hot day to indicate they are full? or do I have a problem with the filler valve? yep that used to happen to me in the old EA. i do believe the problem is at the bowser, because the lady at the servo told me to go to another servo that had its LPG bowser in the shade, and it filled up really slow, but it was there.

Glendale at the Caltex? Funny thing was that another fella in an EL wagon turned up at the same time and filled up no problems, after trying both pumps, I end up using petrol instead!!! Lucky I had dual fuel eh!
I checked the guage in the cover of the tank and it was reading just above empty???

I believe its a safety feature on some gas tanks. If its too hot the gas wont enter or exit.

This means you'll get nothing further in, until the valve thaws - typically 10-20 mins or so. Might also be an issue on the bowser side - I've had certain bowsers with weak flow that cause fill issues.

i always thought that it had to do with the temperature in the servo??? if the servos gas bottles are too hot they wont flow or something. a mate went up to darwin a while back and said they had to wait till dark to fill up with gas on their egas falcon.

I know on LPG decant bottles that if the pressure in the bottle is a little higher then the decant bottle a ball valve in the hose stops any flow of gas.
The way around this to just crack the tap on the decant bottle slightly and go from there etc. |

i have the same problem with my car too on a real hot day, due to the pressure in side the cylinder on a normal day and depending on the propane butane mix it can vary from 65psi to around 100psi and on a real hot day can get up to 150-200psi which actually overcomes the pressure that the lpg pump at the serco can supply so the tank wont fill even with a reasonably empty tank. the lpg vapourises in the tank because of the excess heat from the sun for instance causing a higher pressure.

That low flow error is a pump error, not your tank. The large LPG tanks outside heat up, and the Pump (at the servo) is unable to develop pressure to the bowser. it gets worse the further north you go...
Its not as much of a problem with newer pumps, but there are a lot of places across the top of the NT where you can only get half a tank if your lucky on a bad day |

Well i'll be buggered???
Went to the same servo this arvo after I had the lane outside all day in the sun, admittedly, not as hot as the other day, and it filled up fine. It probably was a problem with the servo, because it didn't even start to fill the other day, nothin at all! But then again, the bloke next to me had no problem, when I moved to the same pump, it still wouldn't fill, so I am none the wiser atm! Just one of those things i suppose???

I had the same problem couple of days ago, My car was parked in direct sunlight and car was pretty hot due to that. I went to fill LPG and bowser showed "ERROR E55" (it was at united pump) and the bloke at registers told me that it happend today to few other cars too and i thought he is bull s**t and i went to the next servo which was BP and the same happend there but different error at bowser and the lady at registers told me the same thing and i got annoyed. The only solution i thought of was i had a towel in my car. I dipped the towl in a bucket of water at servo and squeezed extra water and wrapped the cyclinder with that towel and cylinder's temperature was dropped in like 15 to 20 minutes and then i filled my tank.

I'd better throw a towel in the boot so I can try this method if it happens again

No more issues for me atm! With petrol so cheap atm, I haven't put LPG in for at least a month
