Hi,
I'm not sure if anyone has had this problem. Before I begin I should say that the system has been checked for vapour lock (did the refill running at 1500 rpm etc with cap off) and the modification to a new thermostat has been done. When the air conditioner is on the converter as previously menetioned freezes up! Just wondering if anyone has any ideas? When the lpg is running the air con seems to be super cool. Strange thing is that it runs perfectly without the air conditioner on. The plumbing seems to be done all correctly with pipe from the heater going through the converter. And the unit was fitted by a lpg fitter. Although they keep telling me it is vapour lock. Does anyone have any ideas? |

Hi When the Air/con is switched on , seems like you have a water flow problem thro the convertor. The heater tap ? Without an exact detials where/how the water connections have been pickup and plumbed into the LPgas convertor it is hard to make a judgment on what is causing the problem. But I would be manually applying the heater tap ( disconnect the vacuum hose of the diaphram ) and then testing the system again with the air/con on see what happens. no vacuum on heater valve diaphram = water valve open vacuum on heater valve diaphram = water valve closed check heater core hoses in engine bay ? see if their hot or cold ( inlet and oulet ) and check along the rest of hose paths on the system. good luck cheers

The 4 outlet heater tap is the way to go.
You may have a 2 outlet, which would cause this. |

from what i know and I thought, the 2 way version of the heater tap was standard, ie 1 in 2 out, should I maybe look at changing this to a 4 way version or splitting? Sorry not exactly sure if that is what you mean. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/HEATER-TAP-FORD- ... 1001r10440 |

Does turning the a/c on make the heater tap open??? I didn't think there would be any connection between the LPG system and the a/c, other than . . . hmm . . . say, the idle-up when the a/c is on may cause a faulty LPG system to do something different, but not freeze!?

The water in and water out pipes from the converter should be hot from the flow from the cooling system, so when the converter freezes up, check those hoses to see how hot they are, if the inlet side is cold or at least not as hot as the radiator you can try remove the hose and check for water flow. If the installer fitted the hose from the heater to the wrong side of the heater tap you will not see much or any water flow, then turn off the air con and see if the flow starts again.
Thats one way, the other was mentioned before, disable the heater tap for a test. I doubt its vaper lock if your cooling system is filled correctly. You need water flow in the converter, without it you know the result. So something is stopping the flow. |

What brand of converter?
I had a BRC which was terrible. I swapped it for an OMVL which has solved all my previous LPG issues. Cold starts are now great even at 0 deg. in winter. No freezing up (yet) I have not tried towing a heavy load on a hot day yet. It used to freeze up and the car would not run even on petrol if I let it get to far.

WooooHoooo!!!
I found it and you would neve guess what it was! I swapped the hoses from the top of the converter to the bottom of the converter and this has somehow fixed the issue!! Maybe it is a one way flow in the converter! I did change the head to a tickford one a few months back, the only thing I can think of is I out the hoses back on differently! DOH!!!!! Oh well at least I can proceed with the j3 then the mods! Thanks everyone for tehir feedback!!!! |
