gday

ive just looked under the car today after my dad said he saw coolant last night and i saw that it is leaking coolant out of the bottom of the converter (i think that's what it is correct me if im wrong) but im hoping to go on holidays to qld in Feb and yes i was going to drive but now i don't know if i can.

the car is a 94 ed wagon with an el 4spd auto about 270km on the clock and a lpg kit (not factory will update on make tomorrow) no other mods apart from a ba flywheel.

can i fix it myself? if not how much and what needs to be done?

any help or ideas would be great ill be getting someone to look at it still but id like to know a lil or have some ideas so i don't get ripped off.

Check the hoses going to the converter,the clamps may need tightening up or the hoses may be cracked or split. the worst case may be the alloy has corroded.,Kevman

May be the case of the convertor just needs a tighten.

If you are worried about breaking something, I would take it to a reputable gas workshop and get them to look at it.

My old Falcon Wagon done the same thing, actualy its doing it again now, 2nd time. First time I removed the converter, took the small plate of the bottom (was super hard with rusted screws), filed it flat from the corrosion, made a new gasket, put it back together.

This lasted several months and started leaking again, this time we are going more agressive and going to get a mate to do alloy welding to seal it up for good. That converter is only 2yrs old, my fault was running it without corrosion inhibiter for nearly 1 yr.

If you don't feel comfortable doing it yourself, get someone experianced to fix it, most likely you will end up having to buy a new one like I did. Just remember to ALWAYS use corrosion inhibiter, never plain old water.

update on the problem.

this morning i topped up the water and gave all the screws a 1/4 turn tighter to try and slow it down.. it still leaks but no where near as bad. so i call a mate and his ordering a new gasket will let u know if there is any other problems with it while replacing the gasket.
