hey all
2 quick questions: 1 - do i have to have my LPG system fully up & running to pass the pits to get the car re-rego'd? its all there, just not 110% with how it will run thats all 2 - i snapped the hose running from the convertor(mixer?) to the TB - do i have to replace it with another LPG-specific hose? cheers!

1/. If it is a gas specific test then yes, it still has to pass emmisions, otherwise explain the situation and see how you get on.
2/. The hose can be replaced wth most automotive rubber hose types, there is some which have a woven cover around it that seems to serve no function other than for looks.

car lapsed from rego, so just needs to go over to get it back - might give them a call to confirm
and thanks for that - AutoOne told me i needed a LPG-specific hose, however i doubted it - will get something of a smiliar strength and whack it on thanks as always!

The hose I'm picturing is the type that runs from the converter to the mixer, and is woven covered - just over an inch or so in diameter. I've been told by a few LPG installers that these are LPG specific hoses, and can usually only be bought from auto LPG suppliers - fairly pricey per meter too. Might pay to check this, as the hose could be picked up during inspection - the inspection may be more detailed due to rego lapse. Just being Devil's advocate as usual . . . . .

i might just pop up to a local LPG installer & see what they have to say? i don't have to buy much of it, only that small section pretty much

Heater hose is totally legal, most LPG installers use just that, that's all my cars have ever ran.

i'm popping up the road to a LPG installer tomorrow lunchtime
called them, they have the lines i need for $15/m - which is all i need, then i'm covered!

just my opinion BUT i reckon the reason is that its a fuel line carrying a flamable vapour. You wouldn't run petrol through heather hose because it will deteriorate (quickly) and split. The same reasoning is probably behind the need to use a re-inforced vapour hose. The cheap stuff has a wire wound through it and you cut it with a hacksaw. The more expensive stuff has an external braided finish and is roughly $50 per meter.
FWIW i have never used heather hose in this application and wouldn't dare to. Seen too many failures of heater hose when its just carrying water/coolant.

Hi all, Whilst this is an ancient thread, search engines still find it so I will add my 20cents. LPG is not quite as benign as some comments imply. The LPG Vapour hose is a 3/4" or 19mm NEOPRENE rubber with a cloth braid for abrasion resistance. See http://www.aapsa.com.au/codan-lpg-vapour-hose.html I have had many LPG vehicles over the last 20+ years and my experiences with gas guys is they are quite fearful about what is used. You can have the best super fantastic exceed all and every spec associated with LPG hose and they will reject it as it is not what they know or use. If it is not a specificaly identified LPG hose they normally will bounce the inspection, especially since they are on a gravy train with the rebate operating. Just buy the right stuff if you are re registering a car. |

I agree to buy the right stuff for a reg/roadworthy, save a lot of hassle.
As an aside, I ran heater hose on my ZK for years. No problems at all, in fact it was suggested by an lpg fitter!! |
