Hi Guys,

I have a really strange LPG problem after a long trip over easter, at random intervals on the freeway travelling at 110kmh on LPG the car will start to hop and miss like crazy to the point of being undriveable.

Putting the foot down makes it worse, so i flip over to ULP and run on that for 10mins then flip back to LPG again and its fine, then after various times same problem again. I switched like 15 times in a 250km trip. It was very annoying!

I dont get it. LPG consumption is nothing short of shocking with the best highway consumption of 21.9L P/100K HIGHWAY!!

Its a Tickford factory fit, on an EL 6. New BRC converter a few years back. Any Ideas to what would cause this??

I can't help with your hopping business as I don't know the first thing about LPG...

But that l/100km figure would be right would it? I though you use almost twice as much LPG as ULP? Or this is my understanding anyway... If anyone cares to disagree?

Cheers...

No way.

The ballpark figure you should be aiming for is a 30% penalty for a mixer-based system. For injected LPG systems, the consumption penalty falls below 20% in many cases.

How's your ignition system? LPG needs good ignition systems.

Cheers

Yeah no worries with ignition system at all, will run fine on LPG after being flipped to petrol for a while. Im thinking maybe the converter might have a flow issue?

Flow issues would cause it to have low power or no power higher up in the rev range. If the converter was freezing up due to poor coolant flow it would cause issues with running on LPG & get tothe point of stalling due to the converter freezing up.

Cheers

If left running on LPG it would stall, and the issue is worse under load, so i believe theres a good chance flow could be the problem.

It starts as a slight miss and then gets worse.
Next time it happens i will check if the converter is frozen.

Thanks for the info :)

Knowing that, it could be freezing up. Good luck with it dude.

Cheers

How did you go with it?

When my easyjet system was fit to the EB, the fitter had a really tight bend in the heater pipe which reduced flow a lot, causing issues on colder days when running on LPG, causing it to be very rich. I managed to resolve the issue, fitting a small pipe bend inside the rubber heater hose to make the bend nicer & flow better. Solved the issue.

Cheers

Once removed, prep it & throw it on the bbq! lol.

Ok jokes aside, OP, you checked out your coolant flow & converter yet for freezing issues?

Cheers

Yeah checked flow, flushed cooling system, all appears ok and converter not frozen.
Still hopping after a while running on LPG, I may try using a larger diameter hose to increase flow.
If that doesn`t work im going to swap the converter over. :(
