If you run LPG how annoyed are you at the prices???? I mean the writing was on the wall with the excise being cut but sheesh.. I for one am sick of it so am seriously considering going to petrol. My car's not run on petrol since I've owned it (over 12 years) - its a 351 clevo currently running an Impco 300A hanging over one rocker cover on a 600 holley. I'm intending to get a new 600 vac sec but here's the question - how much more power am I likely to see compared to the restrictive Impco setup? Any thoughts much appreciated!!

How much is it down in SA? It's 92.9 in Sydney at the moment. I was thinking about buying a car on gas. I don't think it's worth it nowadays.

TBH gas has never been worth it, with the issues that i have seen when people use it, compared to a small amount of weekly savings,
If you want to save money driving A to B by a f k n corolla dont ruin good engines puting them on something they wernt designed to run on. i bought a NC V8 and first thing i did is pull the whole gas system out, and it never ran better. if i was concered about saving money on fuel then why the hell would i buy a 302 v8 |

I agree it's time to start doing runners from servo's, happens all the time I did one once when I was on shift at work and the line to the register was 10 minutes long, their fault for being stingy and hiring only one staff member, people who work there say it happens multiple time a day I never had any coppers show up despite having my plates on.
As I recall it was 38 cents when I converted over, that+12.5cpl (total excise) would equate to around 50cpl, but it's 70cpl here and from what I see my area appears to be a bargain. I hear horror stories of it being over a dollar so some intervention is definitely needed. |

Aparently police have better things to do than chase down $60 fuel runs. It happens alot at a servo I used to stop at for dinner. Usually around 3am people do it on their way to work. Day before pay day

Still worth it if it is installed on your car. Example, Boxing Day from bendigo to albury I used $26 of gas in my bf fully loaded with gear and my wife's Mazda 3 used $39 in petrol.

to the fellah who says its still cheaper than petrol ....you do realise you'll burn lots more gas than petrol per k, don't you?? I've read in a number of places that once its over 1/2 the price of petrol its no longer economically viable. Petrol around adelaide is 95 - 97.5 cpl - petrol is around 1.48 to 1.56. If you apply the over 1/2 thing then clearly lpg is not a viable fuel at the moment - with the excise thing its only gunna get worse. I simply can't see the point of it any more..

I gave you a real world example where a 4l falcon on LPG is cheaper to run than a 2.3l Mazda on petrol. It might not apply to all LPG cars particularly those with poorly tuned and maintained systems where they use twice as much gas as petrol but in my case I use nowhere near that amount.

It depends on the setup too. Injection versus mixer ring etc..

The JTG liquid injection system I'm booked in for gets fairly close to petrol in distance per litre.
As an added bonus it also chills the intake charge nicely which is great for a boosted vehicle. I'm unhappy with the dollar a litre pricing too.. it shows how little governments actually care about emission improvements as a good injected LPG setup is much cleaner than a petrol car emissions wise. There is money to be made though.. so up that excise !.... then piss some money away on stuff that looks green but really isn't so you get good press. |
