hey everyone.
i have a 1994 ed thats been on gas since new, i think its a factory system. when i first got the car it was fine, ran fine on gas or petrol. since then headgasket has been replaced, valve stem seals replaced, still she was runing awsome, a mate and i also then advanced the timeing to around 18deg for gas only, as i never really run petrol. then it was involved in a decent front end crash, no damage to quarters, engine was fine. after getting her all fixed up, now only on gas the power will surge under full throttle. if i take of the line full throttle its fine revs out clean and goes quick. but if im cruizeing on the highway and flaten it it drops back to 2nd and the power kinda comes on in waves and it strugles to rev out, though half throttle and 3rd gear kick back still feels great. im not sure what the problem is, iv tryed tweaking with the gas mixtures with no luck. did a full service including plugs and air filter, still no change. has anyone else had this problem? if so can you point me in the right direction? Cheers, Rob. |

oh and also should add, before advancing the timeing it ran perfect on petrol, never any problems there, only now problems on gas, and the tweaking i tryed was the tuneing guide at the top of the
LPG and alternative fuels forum. Cheers, Rob. |

Check the earth between block and battery and body.
If its not right, then the LPG system will try and correct for stochiometric mixture... and get it very wrong. Its a very common problem in this model. |

cheers mate, will deffinataly try that one, didnt even cross my mind, i have been having alot of battery and power problems with the car, battery earthing was bad, fixed that, now the battery its self is on its way out lol.
having a bad earth from the motor to shell im geussing would effect the gas system more as it needs a stronger spark and ignition than fuel? Cheers, Rob |

Nothing to do with spark - has to do with Air Fuel Ratio. The O2 sensor will read wrong if there is voltage drop anywhere in the Earth system. and in o2 land (1.5v total resolution) .2v here and there makes lots of trouble.

replace the O2 sensor.... when they stuff up its more noticible on LPG than petrol....
Does it have a stepper motor for the LPG mix or is it a manual one????

thanks for your reply, it does have a steper motor,
i will deffintaly try the 02 sensor as i have a spare fresh one kicking aorund. the weird thing is if i take of of the line wide open throttle 1st and 2nd will rev out perfectly on gas or petrol, but if im doing 80+ and give it wide open, it will drop to 2nd and surge for a while then start to power up, its a really odd problem, and yet again, on petrol doing that its fine, its only on gas at high speeds the problem occours. cheers, Rob. |

Does it have a balance pipe in the airbox?? It may not have been replaced when they fixed your front end damage.

i fixed all the damage my self, as it was only the bonnet, headlights, front bar, reo, and minor damage to the upper radiator support that was damaged, so it wasnt a major crash, actually the radiator and clutch fan took the hardest part of the hit with the guts towbar lol.
as for a balance pipe, im not exactly sure what you mean by that, but it does have a pipe that goes from the un filterd side of the air box into the side of the gas converter, that is atached properly. cheers, Rob. |
