Im just wondering after having a major backfire and having the pcv valve smash into the head putting a small hole approx 1.5cm x .5cm in the bottom of the alloy head directly under the pcv what are the chances of long term survival of the engine with a small hole in the head. All of the damaged pcv was removed from engine so there isnt anything floating in there. The car has been driven like this for a while and there is no noticeable difference.

A short time ago i spoke to a parts man at a Ford dealership and he said that after backfire the pcv innards can end up in the timing chain, if it jumps then bang! . . . engine dead.

I think the 'damage' you'll find will be the oil drain hole.
Did you happen to retrieve a single ball bearing? this can cause a very bad timing chain mishap as stated above. If it made it to the sump, then she'll be right mate'!

Note to all
there is a revised METAL PCV valve that must be fitted when GAS is fitted to avoid this problem. This was in a ford bulletin

Thanks guys. I fished out the metal rod and spring but i didnt see a little ball bearing. The car has been driven 5000kms in this state now with no problems so i would say all is good.
