i just found out my petrol tank has a very small leak (so prob wont pass a roadworthy) and was wanting to know if there is any way i can seal it without swapping the tank (when i find the leak) i was wanting to know if i could fix it with something like liquid nail or some other sealer like that?

Cheers.

You can actually buy stuff to stop leaks in a fuel tank, I cant remember what it is called but you mix it together in your hand like play-doe and when it dries it is rock hard. Used it on my ex-missus tank had a small leak worked a treat, that was about 3 years ago still holding now. I think you can buy it from BP but if they don't sell it any car place will like Repco or something like that.

I tried to use some of that stuff to stop coolant from leaking out of an intake manifold i had, but it was s**t. It set real hard, but didn't stick very well. Maybe i didn't prepare the surface well enough, but i think coolant kept bleeding out and i couldn't stop that without taking the manifold off.

I reckon you would definitely need one designed for plastic to do your tank, but you will have the same problem of petrol bleeding into the situation and stuffing the bond.

I would consider alternatives. How about drilling a small hole then putting a screw in, with a washer under the head. I did the equivalent of this with my situation and it worked for quite a while, until despite my warning a mechanic screwed the radiator cap on all the way. Mechanical fasteners can often be more trustworthy than chemical fasteners.
