i got quoted, in june this year to convert ANY falcon over to gas $1600. a few months ago my brother converted his magna over and cost $2200, so i assumed the price went up due to the demand ect etc, i got quoted from the same place to do the au $2400! fair enough the prices went up but how can he justify a magna being cheaper to convert over than a falcon?? every other place said due to the taxis falcons are alot easier to convert over (prob labor is cheaper as they know what they are doing). i booked it in with him anyway because his work is good and he is the cheapest i know of... but im still trying to understand why the magna was cheaper....

No idea why the magna was cheaper - maybe smaller mixer or tank?

If it helps, my EF just cost $2400 and my AU wagon is booked in at $2900. Unfortunately that was the cheapest I could find for the AU.

nah, the prices rised when the rebate came in.
shops can get away with charging more, cause everyone gets the rebate, they dont complain.

My AU was done 2-3 months ago for $2900. I reckon (at least in WA, where the total rebate is $3000) they are just bumping it up as close as possible to the $3000, nobody is complaining because they are still essentially getting it for free.

Plus I wouldn't be surprised if the tanks themselves have gone up in price too, there seems to be a constant shortage of them.

I got mine done last April for $2300, However, that included a new air cleaner filter and new spark plugs.

I also got $100 off as my gas tank is dated 2005, not 2006.

Its also the fact that demand has raised since the rebate was introduced.

I paid just over $3k for my conversion back in the middle of '04. About double the standard conversion then, because i went for LPG Injection. I wish the grant was around then!

Demand & the grant are part of what's driving prices up, also is the part that they need to use newer & more expensive hardware to meet legal & emissions requirements now. I've heard LPGI setup's are around $4k now. But with the grant that isn't too bad.

LPG has come a long way from slapping a tank into a car, fitting the change over switch, slapping in a crappy AMOS ring under the air cleaner & wiring it up!

Cheers

ToranaGuy
