I have a gas set up on my 5L that i am wanting to totally remove.
How can i go about safely expelling the gas in the tank? Tank is half full from memory i assume its not somthing that can be done in the garage, LOL.

Wait for other peoples opinions, but I am under the impression that u just turn the tap off and remove the tank WITH the gas still in it.

If you wanna do it safely, you can take it to a gas place and have it decantered.
Best way is to drive the car until it is empty. I took the risk on my EB when I removed it to get tested. It was about 1/4 full. I removed the tank, placed it in an open space free of ignition risks etc, and just cracked the tap a little. Let it empty slowly. Too fast and everything freezes up, but you want to be real carefull about sparks doing this. I recommend you take it to a gas place.

it is highly illegal to let it out yourself, take it to a gas place and have them dispose of it.
the gas damages the environment thats why its illegal

i know of someone that accidently drilled a hole through the gas tank, although not exactly safe with full 60lt of LPG in the tank expelling through a 5mm hole, and with a power drill in the other hand - it did however cover the driveway in ice, and kept it frozen for a good 20 minutes.

ok, not really worried about the tank, but can the mixer and converter (basically all the underbonnet gear) be removed with the tank still half full?

the gas damages the environment thats why its illegal A few years ago, on our way to tassie, our car was checked for dangerous substances at melbourne doecks before boarding the spirit of tas. The car in front of us had a full tank of gas on their caravan, which was eventually disconnected and emptied straight out of the valve. We had 20l of clean diesel which we were told to tip half of it out on the ground, then fill the rest of the jerry with water to stop it from being flammable. Instead we filled up some guys cruiser and stuck it back in empty. Dodgy dodgy times!

If the tank has a main service valve as the first piece of plumbing (which it should), you can simply turn this fully off, then disconnect whatever you want downstream of it.
Don't touch it at all if you're not confident with how any of it works!

Sure can, just turn the tap off on the tank before disconnecting any lines. |

last year i was working in a car removals workshop stripping alloy off cars this included taking out the gas tanks and the converters i strongly suggest turning the valve off as tight as you can, use a pair of multi grips to tighten it. because as i found with wear and tear the vales get faulty and you will be sticking your hands and head in and around the tank and the last thing you want is gas leaking out in your face.
the very first thing you should do is TURN OFF THE GAS. |

yup, turn off the gas at the tank.
but u still will have gas in the line between the tank and converter. to get rid of it, just start ur car up and let it run. |

WTF  Then why is your deoderant, WD40 & fly spray powered by hydrocarbon, specifically butane? It would be illegal because of the danger.
It will sink (heavier than air) & dissapate. Removing the gas is also unnecessary. When dad removed the system from his old ute it still had half a tank. Sat in the tank for a few years til it was put in Mum's car. Having said that, if you don't know what you are doing, you shouldn't be doing any of it.
