i currently have a EF dual fuel wagon and have a half size petrol tank and one large, 70litre [usable] gas tank.
the problem i have is that to fit the gas tank in, it has to sit below the car, with just 2 or 3 mm tin box around it. now the problem is, is that the car is lowered 1.5inches and, because of the drop tank sits so low, it scrapes on the ground with steep driveways. whats the average size of scuba tanks? how many usable litres? how hard would it be to change over? i know id need a full size petrol tank, but would i need to seal off the boot area below the petrol tank? just sheet metal? on lpg i only get 450-500kms highway driving/ 350-400around town from 65-70litres. and on petrol about 300-350 highway/~300 around town from about 40litres. so id like to get a few more kms... car has an OMVL90 converter/simple mixer, extractors, 2.5" exhaust, and Chip Torque HP3 chip. economy is slightly worse without chip. any opinions? cheers. |

James84, a scuba tank is about 55l, 50-52l usable. As it sits higher in the floor you need a special fibreglass cover to fit over it which gives you a slight mound in the cargo area. As the f/g cover is not sealed down you would have to put a metal floor in to seal the cabin from the dust. Then you will need a bracket to hold the spare wheel in the cargo area. Interesting that you lose half (40l) of the petrol tank capacity for only 20l more LPG with your current setup. The wreckers would have all those extra bits with a wagon that has a scuba tank installed.

Yeah, pretty much as above - tank is actually around 61L, and depending on temperature, around as mentioned as usable, sometimes you can get up to 57-58L in.
Best solution to 'seal' the floor may be to fit a std wagon metal petrol tank - the scuba setup sits on it, but is bolted to the side walls. You might be able to get a grinder and take off the top of the petrol tank - leaving the mounting lip and lower shell, and make a blank for the fuel pump hole, but I'm not sure if the scuba setup will sit any lower if the flooring has a lip. Might be too much work just to keep the std spare wheel bay cover.

me EB wagooon has a single gas tank with 'alf a petrol tank _ can bottom out  as i found out  bought a ghia wagooon with gas [lol] & similar setup ........ was thinkin fittin both tanks with no petrol tank bad idea OR ..... what the helll .....

the vapor makes it still go boom....cant ever remove the vapors fully, water means no flame.
im a boily i need to know these things.

So why can't you ventilate it through the filler, and let the air exit through the hole where the fuel pump is ??

actually cutting on it while full is safer than while empty it will go more of a WHOOOSSSSH than boom this way - liquid fuel DOES NOT burn, the vapour does (the fire you get when igniting the liquid fuel is just vapour being created and burnt) most solid fuels work the same way. the safest way is to send the tank out to be professionally cleaned out with chemicals.

Nah good idea, still need a panel underneath them to seal the flooring - both tanks will have a valve area that is sealed with a lid, and a tube or conduit that the LPG line runs through to the floor - this is to ensure if there's an LPG leak, that it stay's outside the vehicle.As you've read in the posts above ensure there's no fuel or vapour present if your cutting, etc. Remove the tanks, etc if necessary. LPG is also heavier than air, so make sure areas such as the spare wheel bay are clear.

You can try this: gearbox-suspension-brake-driveline-f4/how-2-lower-rear-e-series-wagon-t80226.html
Although, retain the lower small leaf on the bottom, add one extra small leaf upside down to the top - will give you 1.25-1.5" lowering, remove the lowering blocks. This will stiffen the spring rate, and you shouldn't have any big issue with bottoming out - worked fine for me - the stiffer rate isn't noticeable. Reduces tramp as well, as you've removed the lowering blocks. Cheap alternative to reset springs - very effective, all you have to do is find 2 small leaves to add to the stack.
