I get good power on Petrol lose about 15% on a standard petrol model, and lose 20-25% power on LPG. Still enough power to move around with. Just gotta leave extra time when crossing roads and pulling out! Ive never met anyone who has it running 100% on either fuel.

I have had this issue ever since i bought my ford falcon xr6 (AU). and been through a lot of troubles. I recently went to a mechanic and he changed the spark plug. Ever since No back firing and it is running with no trouble at all.
FOr all those having back firing issues, I'd suggest first get the spark plugs checked (model and gap). Plus I have been suggested that its advisable to run on one kind of fuel only as much as possible. So I usually run on gas and hardly ever switch to petrol. This is sensible since spark plug and engine faces a completely different fuel so switching should be minimized. Its been 4 months and i do not have single problem with my gas. Hope it helps someone. |

Thermostat. I had the same problem so i took my AU1 Futura to the local gas installer and they said that whoever installed the new thermostat put the wrong one in so another one was put in by them and ever since its been running perfect, never backfired or nothing

i got mine fixed up. was the mixture. gas mechanic just turned some screw on the mixer and cars been running fine ever since. was a bit lumpy but changed the spark plugs over to bosch platinum plus and runs as if it were running on petrol. (apparently gas burns alot hotter and the platinum plus plugs run cooler) eventually change my ignition leads to the blue bosch sports leads aswell.

I used to have this problem on my EL but I think I’ve fixed it.
It now runs great on petrol and gas. In fact I can hardly tell the difference. If your converter is freezing then the car will stall and run like pooh. Try changing the thermostat ($20) EL series Falcon converted to LPG have an LPG specific thermostat. The standard thermostat can close hot water to the heater core under certain circumstances. In most cases the converter is heated off the same water circuit as the heater, therefore no hot water to the heater means no hot water to the converter. That’s why it freezes. Next time it happens see if the heater is blowing cold/cool air only. It’s a fair sign that this is the problem. You can also modify the standard thermostat. Just drill 4 x 6mm holes in the 20 cent size disk on the bottom of the standard thermostat. This will allow hot water to always get to the converter. You can also just cut the sides of that disk with some tin snips. It’s quicker! But I suggest you buy a new one. A faulty thermostat (on Falcons they tend to stick open) will stop your car reaching proper operating temp. They'll never run real good in this state. The other thing I experienced was really poor starting and running on petrol. At first I thought it was the fuel filter so I changed it. Then I changed the fuel pump, but still no good. So I then changed the injectors and bam! Running like a dream on both fuels. It’s important you run your car on petrol at least 30 minutes per week. That’s if you want it to continue to work well on both fuels. I know it cost a few bucks to do but like I said “if you want it to continue to work well on both fuels”. Hope this help/works. |

Alan i agree with moreton. normal ULP has a octane rating of 91, but LPG has an octane rating of 100+? yeah, you can have both so they run fine, but you'll never have both running perfectly. |

My dual fuel BA Mk 2 XR6 is generally OK - but - hard throttle acceleration from low revs or standstill is guaranteed to result in a back fire. Blown an airbox to bits and dented (from teh inside) my bonnet - lots of explosive power there. - it stinks like crap when it changes over. - power is a lot down on same wne I am on petrol I'm looking to install an injected system which I hope willovercome these issues (I'm also looking at a turbo engine transplant before the LPG injection setup goes on )

Im probly the 50th Person now going on about this!
i Just sold my magna about 5 months ago and brought myself a EL 98' Duel Fuel for 3 grand. Everything was fine on the thing LPG and fuel! Now all of a sudden i am getting the problem every seems to be getting! Braking then loosing rev's = stall 80% of the time i apply the brakes, checked that converter and mine isnt cold its hot like the engine! got it booked into a LGP mechanic on monday just to see what the problem is and hopefully it isnt going to cost me to much as im going on holidays soon and not wanting to hack into my savings i have saved! Any suggestions on this before i do take it as i could do it alot little cheaper on my own then the mechanics??? also got told off my other mechanic that does everything else as they dont deal with LPG that my spark leads starting to ark???? Changing them would seem to most probly fix the problem?? and would it be best if i change the plugs also? |

Yeah they fun. If you take off the air intake snorkel and have thin enough arms, you can reach in through the gap. Just make sure engine cold
