Hi all
I have had my AU2 converted to dual fuel for about 4 months now and have been having a few problems with my oil light. On a long run to the country i get the oil light turn on and off after a few hours. I have changed oil and all was good the went on a long trip again and back it came.
I am using Castrol magnatec oil at the moment. Is this a good oil to use in a gas motor? Could the gas be affecting the oil and causing the oil light to come on when the engine gets hot under continuous use?
What oils do you recommend for use in a AU2 on duel fuel?
Thanks again

Are you kidding? There are gas specific oils you should be using. I think castrol make one but better to go penrite. It will say gas on the bottle

The magnatec is thin at times so that can set the light off. Is it mainly at idle or while driving. Could also be a faulty oil pressure sender they are known for going crazy. Magnatec should be ok but it isnt ideal for lpg. I have used Magnatec in my car for years but now im using the stuff formulated for LPG by castrol. If you only put 5 litres it may need a little more.

whats the difference in normal oil and gas oil?? its not like the oil mixes with the gas.... it just lubes the engine.

gas oil has a small amount of ZDDP additive, but the amount is so small it's hardly worth worrying about.

you'd be better off using normal oil and putting in half a bottle of cranecams break in fluid.

Hmmm Interesting.

Ok, but why does the oil need the additive? What reason is there to use a 'specific' type of oil?

Cheers

because LPG is a dry fuel and doesn't do any lubricating at all.

petrol helps lubricate the engine
