i have picked myself up a el tickford dual fuel ecu. I was wondering how to trigger the lpg spark maps if i'm not running a tickford lpg setup?

I have access to a ex EL taxi with the full Tickford LPG setup, which would be better?

The whole EL tickford setup (vialla? ect) with Ticky LPG ecu
or what I have now (B2 Convertor, Impco 225 mixer) ED manual ecu

Upon reading the tech document on the Tickford LPG setup, I am still unsure if you need to do the self learn procedure to get the lpg spark maps or it just needs the 3 wires connected

Pin 8 - Fuel Select
Petrol >9Volts, LPG 0Volts

Pin 13 - LPG Cut Off Solenoid
0V LPG On, 12V LPG Off

Pin 32 - LPG Gas Shut Off
LPG Off 12Volts, LPG On 0Volts

Cheers
Barnsy

Swings and roundabouts really. The impco will give you better economy potential but the Vialle in combo with the Tickford dual fuel ECU can give better power. The main drawback is the cost of the convertors when they need replacement. $200 verses $390<>750.

A Tickford LPG ECU will make an improvement, try it with the Impco system:

With the wiring, do I just have to wire up pin 8 to activate the lpg maps, assuming that my setup already has lpg cut off mechanisms?

cheers

If you simply plug it in it should be running the lpg maps. If you have a look at all the info, LPG is always 0V's.

But, I've been thinking. Does the chip (motorola aren't they? Are they HC12?) have pull up resistors or pull down resistors on it's GPIO pins?

This makes a big difference. If none of the above then the pins may float towards VCC rather than ground. If pull up resistors then with no connection they will be pulled towards VCC. Only if they have pull down resistors will everything work right.

Anyone have any info on this? I only just thought of that recently and I've had my LPG ECU installed for the last year.

cheers
Scott

I have installed the Tickford LPG ecu and the car wont start (cranks over but no spark).
However, car did start on a normal EL ecu, and the ticky lpg ecu was in perfect working condition

What needs to be done to start my car using the lpg ecu?

Id start by enabling petrol, and going from there.

Theres a chance your LPG Setup is configured to pick up its power from the Petrol Injectors.. and if the injectors are disabled so is your LPG
Might need to look at the way its wired
.. just a thought.

not sure what your trying to say here but my lpg setup works fine.

I am just unsure if the 3 extra pins that go to the EL ticky LPG ecu have to be active to enable the car to spark.
I was under the impression the car would start as per normal EL ecu and i would just have to trigger the lpg fuel maps with a single pin

did u get this sorted?

am doing this on an EF now and have had the same problems...

my system is impco and uses the Fuel pump relay to get its voltage for the fuel lockoffs and injectors etc..on LPG maps the ECU shuts down the FP relay and so all LPG operation is lost also...

to answer your question... you need to earth the fuel select pin on the ECU to active the lpg maps...
