you don't really need to run any special oil. with that said i've always run LPG/dual fuel specific oil - my particular favourite being the Penzoil LPG.

I know it's expensive but then much cheaper than a new engine.... MOBIL 1 rules...
You can actually save money as it last much longer as in extend oil changes to perhaps 30,000 if you wanted too. You will need to top it up though. |

I just use GTX2 in my Dual Fuel EF, only because I get it for free from work, otherwise I'd probably use GTX GAS..

GTX3 or Magnatec would of been more apropriate choices I reckon. Unless she's using a fair bit of oil. Mines done almost 700,000kms and still loves 15W-40. |

I used to run Magnatec in my AU XR6, but I think its a bit of an overkill in an EF, my motor's only done 20,000km so it doesn't use any oil. http://www.datateck.com.au/lube/castr_au/default.asp?Section=1&Make=20&Model=497

normal oil is still good then? And it seems no one really uses the dedicated GTX GAS OIL? for 200,000km on a 94 ED 5.0 auto will Magnatec be good??

Are you sure?? "No special oil is required when running on LPG. The standard 4.0 litre oil specification is API class SG/CD or SG/CE; Motorcraft R1 300 or equivalent. It is important that the engine oil be replaced in accordance with the normal vehicle service schedule, 10 000km, 6months, whichever occurs comes first. The combusion products of LPG does not blacken but tends to acidify the engine oil more than petrol does. This problem may be exaggerated when oil change intervals are extended because the oil appears clean to the owner." This is straight from the Ford service manual Dual Fuel Section.

Personally though Iw ouldn't be extending my oil services, if anything reducing them is the way to go. o, and if it's just a stocko 200,000km engine, then mobile 1 is probably not much cheaper than a replacement - since replacement engines can be had as low as $100.00 second hand. |

Gas specific oil should be used as it has additives to 'prevent' the acid build up which eventually eats into the crankshaft/conrod bearings.... And even though it will still appear 'clean/good' at 10,000 klms it still needs to be changed as the above explains......Unless it's a new 'Synthetic Gas oil' which is not available atmo.. |

Ford went to 15k service intervals on the later models.. eg AU11
The bottom end is essentially the same as any e-series. The important thing is to use the best oil you can justify for your own peace of mind. $10 supermarket oil..... 5k changes $30 magnatec ..... 10-15k $70 synthetic ....... 15k+ but don't overdo it! Even if a replacement motor only costs $100 it will still cost more like $300+ by the time you fit it yourself..... coolant, hoses, other s**t Plus spending a whole weekend on the job. Top grade synthetic may even be worth a couple of KW extra power so there you go then! Having said all this I am long overdue for an oil change... I better do one today LOL |
