Hey everyone, i have a non turbo 98 falcon, 4litre engine etc.
My grandfather, my dad and his mate all did water injection in their old carby cars back in their day, dad and his mate got one car doubling its economy from installing water injection into the bottle neck part of the carby. - I havent done it but i know exactly what to do on the carby cars, i have spoken to a lot of people. One guy telling me that i can install it into my ecu car using a micro switch on the throttle body, a second windscreen washer bottle and a hose running into (and a valve to regulate the feed to) the throttle body - tuning it to drip in at a certain rpm.. Is this kit installable into a non turbo car? -I know the engine cleanliness benefits, but will their be any performance or economy benefits? Cheers guys -If this is possible and is beneficial then i will happily write up a comprehensive guide in the forums here Matt

I just had a google, and apparently the gains on a na car are small.

The gains come from the detonation prevention that water injection provides.
This allows you to increas timing to optimum, raise compression, run lower octane fuel. Dave (?) Vizard wrote about it in his book "Performance With Economy". Apparently an average motor only needs high octane fuel during acceleration and when the inlet manifold pressure rises to near atmospheric, wide open throttle. Dave ran an engine on standard petrol with a 15(?):1 compression and ignition advanced to optimum power. Higher compression equals better efficiency. To simplify it, high turbo boost- reduce timing or add water injection. high compression with short overlap cams - reduce timing or add water injection. There is also some benefits for pollution as the water breaks down in the second phase of combustion and the added oxygen and hydrogen burn in the mix. Try extra set of injectors triggered off vacuum/revs/wot, maybe a parallel ecu with different program. Go for it, Grumbles

Just remember that the benefits are negligable on a standard engine.

late sigmas and carby magnas had an adjustable vacuum switch, which could be used to trigger water injection, with low vacuum.
