I would get Half cut with a custom petrol tank and oversized gas tank.
I saw an old ZJ fairlane like this. It had 2 gas tanks 140L plus custom petrol tank 70L.

I currently have a half cut with 90L gas tank, 72L useable. The cut tank holds 43L I had another wagon before with only 37L petrol what a pain that was.

The worst thing is having the damn spare in the back... I really hate it, losing boot space but it's a big boot.

I ended up going for a 100L tank behind the seat. Lost a heap of space with a big damn tank in the way when I put the seats down. I have roof racks though...

In all honestly I would go the scuba if you can get the capacity.

The best solution for most should be to end up with straight LPG, no petrol.

Better range, cheaper fuel works. Most of us can do straight lpg on 65l, a wagon gets much more. Just be sensible between fills.

I would get rid of petrol these days. Can you justify $1.50 a litre when LPG is under .70? you need to really be sure you want to keep it.

If you go straight LPG you dont have to worry about maintaining the Petrol System

how hard is to maintain the petrol system....just run it for a bit every now and then...dont let the petrol get too low

and what is with this obsession with straight gas that everyone on here has...u will not get better economy over dual fuel....

Actually you do get better economy.

But hey- thats the way it is.

Do some careful research.

I think my real question is why do people insist on dual fuel? - especially people new to LPG.

Ive used LPG for the past 19 years.

Has nothing to do with it.

Adjusting the timing will affect the way the car runs on petrol.

Also - first head gasket - straight LPG will allow you to go higher compression, and to choose a cam that works for LPG.

Petrol holds you back.. so to speak.

Seriously - do you drive a petrol car hoping you dont run out of fuel?

.. thats the only reason to run dual fuel. Seems illogical doesnt it.

so u have to take the head off ,shave it heaps and run a thinner gaskit to get the comp up (or rebuild it with hi-comp pistons)....then u run the risk of timing chain rattle...also while your at it you should replace the valves and seats on it else theyll eventually burn out or recede...$$$

no need to adjust the timing...just use the factory tickford dual fuel ECU which has ignition maps optimised for LPG and petrol...

yes a came may help...but thats more money..

if u can do the mechanical work yourself its not bad but paying someone is way too expensive...LPG aint as cheap as it seems

i run dual fuel and would never go straight gas...when u have a problem your stranded....the other day I had my convertor freeze up so just flicked to petrol and kept driving (not late to work and no need to get a tow truck or taxi)

dual fuel is the better way to go in my mind...u can still run a higher comp u just need to use higher octane fuel

Like I said - Ive been running lpg for 17 years. With the right system, Petrol is just more Kg's to carry around.

Anyway - do what you think.

So you'd rather risk cooking your engine than be late to work ???

Interesting hey - if the car was straight lpg it would stop running and the converter would freeze, normally before any damage!

u might not need 2 maintain a fuel system anymore but u still have ur lpg system 2 worry about...something u cant do urself on a sund arvo. plus the fact its gotta go else where for rwc. your motors life is shortened, it doesnt burn as quick so ur losing power.

in all honesty....i'd rather pay $1.50 a litre.....if u add the costs up over the cars lives...and lpg's recipt book would b alot thicker.

All wrong - but interesting.

An LPG Motor's life is increased, due to the lack of washing of the bores (from Petrol). LPG can get very good economy (especially the injected systems) - I used to get 700 on highway with an injected setup on my EB, and 450 around town. I know its not as good as you guys with petrol but I didnt have to care about the cost of fuel so I could drive harder.

My Cars (Im up to 5 now) have all been pretty much maintenance free. I had no work done on the LPG Systems except a fuel filter on the later injected one (after 3 years), and on the GTI System a couple of injector swap-overs as they got developed.

Power wise, yes, most mixer systems are slightly down.. but you can run a bigger engine. The TE50 powered EB I had at xmas would have had more power than most of your EB's anyway - who cares.

The LPG Injected Systems tho - well!.
my GTI System was UP 10% over factory.
my OMVL Dream was about 3% down.

thats not enough to worry about. Seriously - stop comparing Mixer systems with your injection, and go spades for spades.

The money I saved, in about a million km, in not needing full rebuids made it worth it.

... and of course the direct saving of many 00's of dollars especially as a student.

You guys who talk about petrol normally have no real experience. The last 5 friends of mine who thought that way all ended up being proponents of LPG. The only reason they dont convert is if theyre not planning on hanging on to a car.

I get sick when filling a petrol car up - the fumes arent good for you. LPG = not harmful. Better as a green fuel as well.
