Just wondering how well the windsor V8 from the el series runs on LPG
does it run as well as the i6, and does it drink marginally more than an i6 on LPG? |

My windsor actually uses less gas than my old I6 did in my old faimont.
My old 6 used 20l/100km and my xr8 uses 18-20l/100km. Same driving, mostly. Sometimes a lttle more spirited in the 8. My windsor runs great on gas and only a slight loss in power, hardly even noticeable IMO.

matt001, my EF Fairmont wagon 302 V8 gets average 15l/100km on BP LPG & AFAIK it's the same Windsor engine & auto as in the EL's (mine's an August 96 build & EL's came out in Sept 96).
Weekend driving through the Adelaide hills gets 17l/100km. Highway cruising at 100kph gets it down to 13.5l/100km. I use petrol weekly just to keep the injectors from blocking up & I always keep around 1/4 to 1/3 tank of petrol to stop the fuel pump from burning out. At 48c/litre for LPG it's far cheaper to run than a clapped out petrol 4cyl car & lots more fun. I can't compare it to an I6 as I've never owned a Ford before this. But it has no problems on cruises keeping up with or in front of the I6's & at the dyno day it put out a little bit more than the stock I6's on petrol anyway.

It's a Gastec FP32 control unit, with a scuba tank. It was installed by the previous owner, & I've been told by an installer that it's adequate for the stock 302. Apparently it's not the best setup, neither is it the worst.
But I wouldn't know shti from clay when it comes to LPG conversions.

Your LPG ECU should disable the fuel pump whilst the engine is running on LPG, at least my Sprintgas setup on my wagon does. I do agree with keeping a heap of fuel in the tank, mine starts on petrol and switches over thus the injectors are getting some use every time I start it. Hardly notice any power drop but I know that it would have heaps more grunt if I didn;t have the choker mixer fitted. Great economy too, love it!! |

Sprint Gas setup here. Installed just over a week ago int my 1997 Fairlane. Quite happy with the results. Still grunty for what it is, its all stock. Actually it has a larger maf housing and a K&N filter. Best part about it costs you half of what fuel does to run it.
Was costing me between 75 and 90 to fill it depending on fuel type and price but now it only costs 32 odd dollars. Quite happy Regards |

i'm running an Airod system, have used them in many carby V8's and happy with it on the 5lt NF, i get around 300-330 km's from a tank and it costs $27 or so to fill it up, with no regard for economy, but i was shocked to see the price of LPG in NZ last week whilst on holidays. $1.33 a litre!

wow and I complain when gas here gets over 60c a litre.
My Fairlane runs at 16-17lt/100km on gas its going pretty good. Ive had it down at 14-15 from time to time.. I get about 350 km from my 68 usuable litres. Had my gas system installed 9months ago, so a reletively new system. |

Gday all - I have the King SVI system on my EB1 XR8 and get 450km per tank from 61litres. Pretty impressed but has a flat spot from 22-2500rpm...wants to stall and hesitates...taking it back to the installer as it is covered by 12 month warranty!! He reckons it needs the bigger injectors...

You will find you will have ongoing issues when running a EB 1 on VSI.
Its a grouped fired injection and the king VSI does not have the finess in the injectors to be able to handle it. Group fire injection runs a totally different injection stratergy when compared to sequential injection. Even the systems that say they are able to handle it will have issues. Is your regulator running a vacuum line to it?? If you run manifold vacuum reference it will drop gas rail pressure according to acceleration and load and this will actually increase injection times to a level that the King injectors MAY be able to handle it. Constant pressure will give very very short injection times with a group fire injection car and these small times (smaller than 2 MS) are far beyond the times most vapour injectors can handle. The only vapour injection I know of that has injectors that are up to the task of handling injection times lower than 2 ms is the Emer system (yes I know not many people know of it) This system runs SUPER fast opening and closing injectors (dead time of less than 1MS) that can handle the very short double pulsing short injection of group fire injection. Nearly all other systems have dead times of more than 2ms. So all low end speeds and idle will be VERY hard for a standard system to handle unless it can do some neat tricks to get around it (like lowering vapour pressures at idle which will increase injection times on gas to compensate). Even then you will have to pay me alot of money to fit vapour injection 9or any injection) to any group fire injected car. its a headache to get right and can cause alot of grief for both installer and customer. ED onwards V8s are sequential. Bigger injectors will amplify the problem. Personally I would have gone with a mixer system on a EB V8. Or run a piggy back ECU and make it sequential injection. Good luck I have done quite a few ELs, AU's on vapour injection (V8's) and I use the Eurogas injection that run the Kehein injectors and they run unbelievably well. Its literally fit and forget. I only see the customers back at the 20,000km service and all carry on about how unreal the windsor (with sequential injection) runs with this system. The Emer system is also another amazing system. I would highly recommend them as the very best choices if you want it to run perfect with NO power loss. If you want the ultimate in LPG with a increase in HP than liquid injection is the way to go but there is no kits available for the windsors at all so it would need to be a custom system. that costs $$$$.

Sorry but ALL V8's from E series up are sequential injection, only the 6cyl had group injection. |

Correct.
Group fired injectors were based on speed density EECIV ECUs and not the MAF based ones. I would argue with the company who distributed that documentation blownba as it is false. |
