VW Golf. It won car of the year. The GTR got knocked out in the second round as its too track focussed to be a road car and too heavy to be a track car.

That's the new 5.0L 'Coyote' engine.

I read on 'goauto.com.au' that the 2010 XR8 will be supercharged up to 315kw. They say they got the info from official ADR documents. But what confuses me is that the Coyote engine is already 307kw. Why would they boost a motor with a supercharger for 8kw's. Sounds like a load of cow poop to me. What do you all think?

TORQUE

With only 5L of displacement, it'd be hard to match the torque made by the generals 6+ litre v8's. No we can literally blow them away.

(I don't believe it's true the XR8 will get a blower, I reckon they can get 315kw n/a out of them)

Just reading last months issue of Automotive Engineering International and the cylinder bores in the new V8 have no steel sleeves. instead they are ferrous iron plasma spray coated (same as on the current model Nissan GTR which ford borrowed the technology from). What does this mean? A weight saving of 3.9kg over a traditional steel lined alloy block, but also it means no more rebores or light hones come reco time. Until the technology is affordable enough to have local plasma spray coating facilities, the block will have to be junked

A tune will give at least 20 to 30 kw's without any worries. Just to go up 8kw's is easy. I believe the FPV's will have a supercharger (maybe not the GS) but I have seen and heard so many stories about how much extra power there will be. Don't believe it until you see it in writing by FPV. You can be assured of one thing; "eat dust Holden".

If you wear out that new 5L Ford block you've worked it hard, so I would suggest buying a new one anyway, or probably a new car. Or if you like, just bore and sleeve it to suit.

im 100% its a technology Nissan bought from ford. im sure ferrous iron plasma spray coated will be superior anyway. The one thing ford ford did with the coyote that is making it a success is they did not go backwards.

plus the amount of research and development, testing and punishment that went into this thing, i cant see it braking or needing a rebuild until at least 10 years or so. thus far most ford v8's have been tough units with plenty of livability in them, i can only see this being a step up
