After looking at an EL XR8 and deciding not to get it due to its been in an accident I started at looking at others that were not an E series (my favourite). I tend to be a bit one eyed when it comes to EF/ELs. So to broaden my view I checked out a few others.
The AUIII XR8 is 220kw Windsor with a weight of 1500KG. The BA XR8 is 260kw Boss with a weight of 1740KG. The BA can have its computer edited and the AU can't. Would the difference in weight between the two mean even though the AUIII is 40kw less still win in a drag? I am also only taking into account they are both manuals not autos. With a few simple mods done to the AU like extractors and exhaust, MAF and TB upgrade what could you expect in power at the wheels? Cheers Your thoughts on what is better taking into account weight and power would be appreciated. |

Thanks for that. I would be happy with 200rwkw from any car. The AU is a little closer to my price tag. I would of thought that 150kg extra would cost the BA little more in the performance department.
I'm after an awesome sounding V8 with a 200rwkw. Cheers |

if it were me id be waiting till i could afford a BA...
i reckon they drive and look s**t better than the AU's do. Not that an AU is bad, just BA is better |

I guess the longer I wait the cheaper everything will be.
When does the new model Falcon come out? Will the BA be tweaked or will it be a completely different shape like the BA was for the AU? |

Yeah for the engineering aspect for things like engine and suspension, you just can't beat the BA range seriously. E cars are pretty, AU's give you one hell of a lot for the money. But the BA is a brilliant car in the looks department, go department, and ride department. The XT s**t all over my Fairmont in every way. And there are some great bargains around for 2002 models already.
The only thing I'm not really impressed by with the current car is the V8 engines. Can't be revved high, and where the usable power sits in a fairly narrow band in the rev range. I can't help but think they could have done so much better with that engine, especially with what they've done with it in American Fords. Here it's baulky, heavy and doesn't do a hell of a lot for the size the overall engine it is...IMO anyway...you might have other thoughts on the subject.. |

the au would be easier to turn unless the ba has some uber suspension setup, as its lighter its got less force acting upon it.
however if the p/w ratio is similar the ba will win on heavier car with same power to weight ratio = higher traction rule. (in a str8 line)

I'm pretty sure the BA does have 'uber' suspension, leaps and bounds better than anything before it. I cant remember exactly how good the AU suspension is though and so maybe the AU is good enough to keep up with the BA? But im pretty confident that the BA will out-manoeuvre the AU

from what i have read in magazines the au's grip and steer alot better than the current ba xr8's as they are to soft in the front end.
au 3 xr8 had independant suspention all round. get a T3

I'll second that...................Get a T3!!!!
A BA XR8 will spank an AU. Recently on our dyno day and AU Series 3 220kw got 141rwkw. An extremely tight (700kms) BA XR8 got 191rwkw. A TE-50 (Series 3) Exhaust was the only mod got 212rwkw. Personally i think the power ratings on the AU V8's are a little off. Get a T3, same weight as an AU XR with s**t more power and they look horn, plus they're more exclusive than a BA XR8. Dave |

I ended up getting an EL XR8 185kw.
I prefer the look and style of a EL/EF XR. I would like to eventually way down the track to get a stroker for it so it ends up being like the T3 5.6 litres, but GT40Ps will be first. |

With an new exhaust ,home made cold air ,new leads and a phenolic spacer you can get around 250rwhp out of the 220.Thats what im getting at the moment and according to BPT the comp mods isnt far away which should give somewhere around 10-15 kw.

Yeah thats what i thought too.
I'm only pulling 126rwkw, out of my series 1 EL XR8. He's only got 60k's and i've got 160k's. I was disappointed myself in that figure. Dave |
