CAT Ford Performance Racing's Jason Bright has finished second and Team Betta Electrical's Craig Lowndes third at the sixth round of the V8 Supercar Championship Series at Queensland Raceway outside Ipswich.

Garth Tander took the round win, ending Ford's five-year winning streak at the Willowbank track.

Bright took second place in race #1, ninth in race #2 and third place in the final race of the weekend. It was a strong weekend all around with second place after the top-10 shootout.

Lowndes was forced to battle his way through to third, after qualifying 12th; before finishing fourth in race #1, sixth in race #2 and fourth in the final race.

The result for Bright matched his second place at Winton (Round #4) and has now put him into eighth position in the championship.

"Garth was untouchable this weekend, so we are pleased with second place," said Tander.

"Our plan was to beat the Queensland Ford teams and going on past history that should have gained us the round win. Garth obviously didn't follow that plan.

"Our team has struggled in the past here in Queensland, but we really put that behind us this weekend.

"I wouldn't say we had an easy ride this weekend. We had some brake dramas in the first race, and didn't quite have the handle in race #2. For race #3 it was a solid package. Taking that all into consideration, the team showed plenty of character to get that result.

"I'm sure a round win is not too far away. I'm even prepared to wait until Bathurst if that's what it takes!"

Lowndes remains in second place in the championship chase after a weekend that started on the back foot.

"We outsmarted ourselves in qualifying, but raced very well to get the result," said Lowndes.

"The first race really set things up with a fourth place finish. There was plenty going on around us in all the races, but we kept our nose pretty much clean.

"Like Jason we didn't have the best weekend, but it shows that you should always fight for every position as it will help get the result in the end.

"We are pretty determined to hit back at Oran Park. We had good pace there last year, and if not for a doubtful pit-lane speeding call we could have won that round. So we are keen to get a win in Sydney this time around."

The hard luck story of the weekend went to James Courtney (Jeld-Wen Motorsport). Courtney was on track to finish second overall before an engine drama in the final race sidelined him.

Despite the final result, he silenced the critics with a performance that was the talk of the V8 Supercar paddock.

Defending V8 Supercar Champion Russell Ingall (Caltex Racing) enjoyed a solid run to be placed fifth overall for the weekend, while Mark Winterbottom (Ford Credit Ford Performance Racing) took his fifth straight top-10 result with sixth overall.

Team Betta Electrical's Jamie Whincup was ninth overall, despite a challenging race #2, when his front-left brake exploded. The shattered brake disc flew over the pit wall and struck two crew members from an opposing team. No serious injuries resulted.

Ford next goes V8 Supercar racing at Sydney's Oran Park on 11-13 August.

both driver and team c/ships are being led by toll at the moment but on adjusted points lowndes jumps to the top by 34 points. lets hope he can keep it going. good to see young courtney show what he can do when he is in familiar surroundings. sbr seem a bit off the boil at the minute. i wonder if the lack of feedback from a driver like ambrose has anything to do with it. fpr on a real roll at the moment also. ford ranks should be strong next few years with winterbottom, wincup, courtney etc all performing at the front.
