I woke up at some funny hour this morning and CHamp Cars were on the TV, so I watched the last hour. I take it this is teh same series are the same as the Indy cars that come to Surfers Paradise?
And whats with the Power 2 Pass on the Ford Cosworth engines? Is that just a gay name for an electronic boost control that ups boost when pushed to give the donk some more go?

Yes thats pretty much what it does.
They also use it in the A1 GP.

Push to pass does not up the boost! it lets them rev higher (moves the revlimter up)

Champ chars (CART) use the P2P button to actually increase the boost in the manifold. A1 cars are naturalyl aspirated so they just give rpm/power increase....

Indy car racing is ok... but its a dying breed. Not enough cars racing, the rivalry with the IRL (naturally aspirated indy cars, mostly oval racing) continues... the two categories have f**k each other over...

So it's like a thought originally, an electronic boost controller?

Yeah mart, your right, sorry didnt exactly specify about each car, but i do know that the champ cars use it to give a small amount of extra boost/HP.

Yes....

A champ car runs a 2.65L ford V8 with 41.5 inches of mercury of boost (about 20 psi) but with the P2P button pressed, raises this to 44 inches (about 21.6psi) and they get another 50 odd horsepower.... i assume this is done by some electronically controlled wastegate...

Used to be called the boost button, now officially called P2P....

Yep that is correct. I forget how many seconds though i think it may be 60, marty this is where you come in. And i think A1 get to use it like 5-6 times?

A1gp can use P2P 4 times in the sprint race and 8 times in the mains. (ups power from 520hp to 550hp).

Champ car IIRC has 75 seconds - only can be used in 10 second bursts.

Best thing about Indy is when it comes to Surfers Paradise to race. Tell the 300,000 people who come here its a dying breed.

CART and IRL have f**k each other over the last few years, constant rivialry means they are loosing fans.
