The Super Cheap Auto 1000 at Bathurst is a highly sort-after prize in Australian sport. So just what goes into getting the team to the track and through 1000 kilometres of racing?
Betta Electrical Sandown 500 winners, Ford Performance Racing, will take a full complement of crew. Making sure Jason Bright and Mark Winterbottom (CAT Ford Performance Racing) in the #6 Falcon and Matt Halliday and David Brabham (Ford Credit / BroadIP Ford Performance Racing) in the #5 Falcon have the best chance of winning requires the following: . 35 crew members plus 4 drivers - regular race weekend is 26 or 28. Extra workshop based staff attending include fabricators, machinists and mechanics. . The majority of the team is based in Melbourne. However, David Brabham and Team Director David Richards are flying in from UK. Matt Halliday from NZ, and Team Physiotherapist Glenn Lindsay from Gold Coast. . Four houses are booked for the team. One has dormitory style accommodation. There are 20 individual rooms. . Vehicles - 2 x 12-seater Transit buses for crew, F250 Utility and seven individual cars including FPV, Falcon and Territory models. . Flights - David Brabham, Glenn Lindsay, Matt Halliday and David Richards . 80 wheel rims - Tyres - 7 sets of slicks per car including 2 used sets, 4 sets of wet tyres per car. . Panels - 2 sets of front guards per car, 4 sets of front spoilers per car, I set of doors per car, 2 boot lids per car, 3 rear guards per car. . Engines - two per car. . Estimated fuel consumption - race cars - 3.6 litres per lap, 50 laps practice, 350km completed before start of 161 lap race - estimated consumption 759.6 litres per race car. . Cost of equipment needed - $500,000 . Budget for the race - strange one as it depends on the hardware used. Estimated $600K. . Meals - 117 meals from Tuesday to Sunday based on 3 meals per day for 39 people. Add into the mix three test days at Winton Raceway in Victoria and the scale of preparation required to be successful at Bathurst becomes apparent. The Super Cheap Auto 1000 runs from October 5-8.
