Yeah runs high fives and a 14.02 down the quarter (reference motor). With 30 extra kw and 100nm it only manages to better the standard turbo by one tenth in the 400m. With that nice increase in power and torque and also the addition of the six speed, it should have at least dipped into the mid to high 13 sec bracket.

5.72sec to be exact, that's pretty good for 0-100, but i would also expect a slightly lower time down the 1/4.
the gt isn't doing too bad, 13.85 1/4

I looked the other day and the CarsGuide had 3 good articles on the Typhoon, very nice car for only 58 grand starting price. Supposebly the GT manages to catch up by teh end of the 1/4 mile...

For 58 grand i'd rather purchase a brand new xr6 turbo fully optioned and mod it with one of the phase kits. For the difference in price and performance between the typhoon and the xr turbo, the typhoon just doesn't seem worth it. Its a great looking car though.

I agree, in a few years, everybody will forget the vl turbo. xr6 turbo will be king.

I don't think it's a good thing, it will just attract more d***head to the Ford arena..

Most new car buyers do not buy a car to modify it, you talk to most performance shops, it is the second and third generation of car owners that look towards modifying the car. Someone who buys a new car usually looks for one that satisfys there needs straight out of the box... Hence why there is a market for the Typhoon, even if you could get the cheaper XR6T and have a upgrade kit done...

Fair enough twr7cx, i understand what you mean. But really an extra 10 grand over the turbo, 30kw and 100nm and the typhoon is only 1 tenth quicker across the quarter. Abit of a disappointment. Those figures should propel it much faster! From a performance sense you'd buy the xr6t and mod it, but if you wanna be flash and standout you'd buy the typhoon.

The Typhoon has had more than just engine upgrades. The interiors better, the wheels, bodykit, etc.... FPV also offer free advanced driver training with it, etc. And as far as I know Typhoons are 58 grand, while XR6T's can be had for 46, so it's a bit over 10 grand difference. Personall I think both cars are pretty decent value for money!

they (motor) have a brand new car, it isn't run in yet, so give it some time, and you can expect even lower times.
im sure it will run quicker, for the small increase in weight, and the massive jump in torque and power, it has to run a high 13sec time.

The thing is to you get a full factory warranty with the Typhoon as well. Where as if you modded the XR6T you might nott. Turbo's being Turbo's can sometimes have their problems. Like the old saying goes,
" High Performance cars can have High performance problems."
