saw this advertised on TV the other day in Adelaide, the new Hyundai Grandeur V6 (http://www.grandeur.com.au/) has 194kw's, which is more than Ford's new BF's are pushing out! Admitadely it is more expensive and probably has less torque and overall is probably not as reliable engine or something, but still I find it embarressing that our BF XR6's are pushing out less power than a Hyundai! And when you think that ford have pretty much been developing the same engine for 30 years now starting from the old 250's it ain't that good...

this is a comparison the the bf fairmont same price, fairly similar specs the bf is only 30 kg heavier performance wise i cant imagine there being much difference. according to the figures 0-100 in the hyundai is 7.2 7.7 secs for the falcon

that's a silly question after owning only falcons for my entire driving career (3 falcons in 4 years).
but it's still embarresing that Hyundais are above us! Shows that Ford and Holden need to kick themselves and do a bit more! There having a hard enough time selling the big 6's at the moment with the petrol hike and that, being beaten in power (and probably economy) by Hyundai ain't gunna help sales!!!

You are right with ford developing the six for 30 odd years, but it isnt the 250, it was the 144Cui in the XK that saw the ford 6 first in Australia. And it was a deamon compared to the Holden 138 Grey Motor

So your plan to combat falling sales figures due to fuel prices... is to increase the horsepower of the motor?

Good plan

well making the engine run more efficently should increase power. And look great on the sales brocher! take the BA to BF upgrade for example, 8 kw's gained and a more efficent engine meeting EuroIII now!

i wouldnt say that the hyundai is 'better' than our falcons. sure, they look like they might be a bit quicker, but id still rather pull up in a nicely polised bf fairmont then a hyundai. think of it 5 years down the track, the fords will still be runnin when the hyundai is on its 3rd engine

I don't think we've got anything to worry about fellas. Imagine pulling up to the lights in your 6 speed ZF auto equipped BF Fairmont, only to a find a Hyndai there waiting for you. Even if the thing did keep up or (god forbide) get a nose in front, which car do you think will be more enviable? A FWD, high powered 6 with plenty of torque steer? Or a RWD, established, respected Falcon???
