Except the EL which was even better and more refined than the EF series... 8-)

Just a shame their tail lights were crap and the front didnt look as good 8-)

Them's fight'n words.

EL GLi/Futura front end's are tough as, and the XR's much better than the EF XRs.

(I however do agree about the tail lights, will a set of NL tails fit on an EL?)

Yeah funny how they chose those s**t tail lights for the EL Gli/Futura and XR series, but kept the EF tail lights in the high series EL?

To me those crap tail lights should have been in the EF, pretty stupid to go backwards on the next model.

As for fronts the EF definately looks better than the EL, but i'd take the EL XR front over EF XR anyday.

I must admit, I fell in love with the look of the NA Fairlane in 1989. I said to many that I'd own one one day.
But later. I really fell in love with the EF GLI. Loved that front end!
But I felt the Fairlanes were awe inspiring. They looked smooth in those tv ads.
I absolutely felt the EF/EL Fairmonts were absolutely something special. I was dissapointed when I later found out even they didn't have IRS though.

Back to my question though. Anyone know how you'd know if your car was stretched by the last owners neglectful towing methods?

I think you'd start to notice gaps in the doors, even creases down the rear quarters, doors hard to close etc.
I remember this because early series Commodores had that problem from heavy towing.
Oh when i say early, i mean VB to VK and prob VL.

EF falcon front ends are the best of the whole E series. They look the cleanest.
Go the mighty EF

VT's too. I remember a story of one family man who in a brand new VT. Hooked up this massive caravan, put his family in the car and went on a drive. 4 hours down the road and they all go to get out for a stretch, and not one of the 4 doors would open.

PML!
I only hope thats true as i like the story, hahah!
BTW: the review seems very accurate to me.
Oh, NL rear lights cant be fitted to anything but fairlane/ltd.

EF standard front end kills EL, but EL xr kills EF IMHO, fairmont and up were basically same, so meh.

All in all stop your bickering as they are all good cars.

Cheap reliable equiped nice looks, got it all.

Body: Outstanding body corrosion warranty meant few rust problems but odd surface rust shows up in door panels. Early black exterior trim faded or lifted. Driver's door will sag. Unbreakable polycarbonate headlights were a first and can now be crazed or yellow with age but can be buffed-up. They will also need upgrading for rural use. Faded amber globes in EF rear indicators can blind other drivers. Boot strut bracket welds fail and damage rear seat belt webbing. Correct tow bar for heavy towing must be fitted otherwise body can stretch beyond repair. Early "dancing" doorlocks should now be fixed. Driver's seat sags with age but separate covers are easily removed for cheap cloth and padding replacement.

Where's those f**k annoying front window jamming problems in that list that only EF and EL have?

Yer, true - there is a couple of niggly problems they have left out; altho i guess the owners would know more of them.
I havnt had this porblem in either of mine tho, maybe im just lucky.
