Oh when i say early, i mean VB to VK and prob VL. VT's too. I remember a story of one family man who in a brand new VT. Hooked up this massive caravan, put his family in the car and went on a drive. 4 hours down the road and they all go to get out for a stretch, and not one of the 4 doors would open. PML! I only hope thats true as i like the story, hahah! BTW: the review seems very accurate to me. Oh, NL rear lights cant be fitted to anything but fairlane/ltd. EF standard front end kills EL, but EL xr kills EF IMHO, fairmont and up were basically same, so meh. All in all stop your bickering as they are all good cars. Cheap reliable equiped nice looks, got it all. LOL agreed. I wonder if there's an obsessed fan out there somewhere, who has all the t.v car ads on tape for the last 10 years or so. The E series ads would be good to have, including a good collection brochures. Heres one online, for the 1998 NL Fairlane Ghia. Gorgeous. http://www.rpdata.net.au/brochures/1998 ... rlane.html |

That's what we need here. A real enthusiasts page. Rare brochures, videos of ads, cuttings, clippings, reviews the works. You know.
Sometimes you go into those Op Shops, and they have magazines and stuff from ages ago. If your lucky you can find a shop with a collection of old Motor or Wheels mags etc. Not that this clarifies as anything special. I once worked at South City Holden. I won't say as what, obviously wasn't a mechanic. But I was all by myself this one night, and I start rummaging around in what must have been the press room or something. Anyway in one cupboard I found all of these old brochures of Holden's going back years and years. f**k pristine condish. If I had of been a Holden fan, some good s**t. You know what I mean. Maybe Ford has a whole heap of these things out there somewhere. Some press room with an archive. Has to be? |

Funny you should mention that, i just put AU sideskirts on my car - funny thing is i should have had to shorten them by 30mm to fit properly, but they were the right length already - scary, Just find someone with an EF/EL that you know hasnt towed, then measure, then compare

they always say that u can only have 2 of the 3 elements to a car
power reliability economy but it seems the EF/EL has a good portion of all of the above! i think i'll stick to ford in future

well im happy with my ef's front, hence why i haven't modified it, but i have an el xr front bar to put on when i get some headlights and indicators. i think the ef's distributorless ignition is better than el's.

One thing the oval EL grill does do is at least lets, some air pass through into the engine bay. Some, but it's better than almost none.

dosen't it meet the radiator support behind the plastic shroud?
i doubt much air gets in there, i think it was purely for looks, although you could modify it.

i read somewhere that was put in as the grill-less nose on the ef wasn't too popular, people didn't want a blank nose on the falcon. Spose any more air would help cool engine...

Yeah I was checking out the engine bay in my sisters EL Futura. And when I went over the nose of the bonnet it surprised that, the oval actually allows air to pass through. So it's half way there.
I think with the air welling up under there, some would make it's way to the intake too. |
