I know Ford America have just invested heavily in a new 6 speed automatic, and factory space to build them. It is a RWD setup that they want for their Falcon sized sedans. I'll try and find the link........here goes...BTW while I'm doing that search, did you know that the 2 guys from Google started with a basic server in a back shed a few years ago.
They are now 150,000 pc's strong with a work force of over 2000 people.
The cafeteria in their workplace has a permanent Gourmet chef employed to cook El La Carte everyday.
The 2 guys are now worth 6 Billion dollars each. Lucky pricks!

Here we go guys. It's only a matter of time now. I can even see these in the base model XT or 2007 Falcon. They could be that affordable if built by Ford America.

Enjoy. :P

Here's another link with a GM additive um...added. Interesting one this one.

It's definately time that the XR6 becomes more than an XT with bodykit and sports interior. The 6 speed transmissions are a start, butI still think they need a bit of a power boost over the XT's and that.
I wonder if a 6 speed auto XR6 will be able to beat a 4 speed auto XT down the quater now?

Its a good idea thats for sure, but seriously with the 110km limit these days where the hell are you going to go to test out the 6 speeds full potential. :?

Logically, more gear ratios means that first could be not so stupidly tall - have it max out at say 50 instead of 90. That could only lead to better acceleration. I'd imagine that diff ratios could also be changed with more gears to play with.

Yeh, that was my thinking, it shouldnt be too hugely complicated (think 4spd into 3spd EA) plus this new box has to co exist with the old 4spd auto, so they cant change a huge amount of stuff around

Thats not true.

Given that the Control is done by the ECU, the programming for the two gearboxes can be completely different if ford wants. The difference is that the 6 speed needs more control solenoids.. The solution : Just dont use the additional i/o on the ECU and a different ECU Flash.

I wouldnt count on this being an easy upgrade using the ECU Method.

HOWEVER... if any of those other cars that use the gearbox have a stand-alone controller (a fair possibility) then you could perhps use that. Think about it : The ZF boxen have been used in other markets for a while.

Cheers

1st gear to 50km/h?? Unless the BA has less poke off the line than an EL... i have enough traction issues in the wet as it is with the 4 speeder and 3.08 open diff... (maybe it's cuz im running stock tires that have had the life torn from them on 15" rims though 8-) )

Yeah but I bet you don't have too many traction issues in the dry.

Come on, it's a well known fact that the BTR has an extremely tall annoying 1st gear ratio.

Oh for sure, traction in the dry is pretty well fine, and i am all too aware of how annoyingly tall our 1st gear is (and 2nd, and 3rd), but im willing to sacrifise acceleration it if it means i can drive around in the wet. unless of course the standard tires fitted to the 6 speed cars have improved wet condition traction - which im sure they will. in that case, bring them holdungs on
