Anyone else seen this? Read about it in the Sunday Times today. Definately an option for me I think.
edit - ok so I just read most of it, certainly not an option at 55k brand new. Should help to bring down prices on 07/09 FPV's though. mmmm.... yes

Exactly, Ford Oz seem to be the performance people, Ford USA are in their own strange league, they always do stupid s**t and can't seem to deliver what the consumer wants. All the American compnaies seem to be like that, which is prob' why they are all in the s**t. Listen to your customers, put out a product that your customers want = money in the bank and happy customers. Putting out products that you think are great doesn't mean that your customers will too. Ford USA seem too arrogant to realise this.

They kept the mustang going when they easily could have killed it off.

The US is a funny market. they only drive really really big things or really really small things. A falcon to them is a foreign concept because its not as big as a crown vic but its larger than a mustang.

Yep Look at GM they basically told Holden..... "go for it" they seem to have less GM support so to speak.

If they killed the mustang, what icon would they have left to associate with? Yes they would have other cars but the mustang to Ford USA is like the Falcon to Ford AUS. If Ford USA imported the Falcon and sold it in the usa, they would make a mint, i always hear people on forums and youtube SCREAMING that they wish Ford would bring them into the USA as they love them so much and are better than what the US has on offer.

I must admit though, I LOVE the Euro fords, like the Focus and the Mondeo. Where i think ford really lacks in, is advertising. I don't know about Aussie but here in NZ, it's basically one crappy ad per year and doesn't really promote anything about the Falcon.

While I like the look of that GS I think it would be a huge mistake for Ford to drop the XR8 in favour of the GS, as others have pointed out it feels like the death of the muscle car circa late 70s all over again.

Something that always pisses me off about Ford is their strange concept of popular demand, muscle is popular, if it wasn't FPV wouldn't exist, the XR8 offers the high end option that allows consumers to get a hot V8 without the FPV price tag, this is not the domain of FPV this is the domain of Ford. When FPV start adding cars of this level to their stable they are taking a backward step because this is not what the FPV badge represents and IMO it devalues the entire FPV range, on the other hand the XR8 adds value to the Ford brand...

Stupid move IMO.

When will Ford stop making decisions based on market trends and take a f**k gamble based on what people everywhere are saying? We want a GT coupe (and a Standard model for the pussies) ;)

Well they released the GS today. I'm not sure who this is pitched at. The GS model was around in the 60's.

Its aimed fair and square at baby boomers who's parents could afford such cars as the GS. Now that they finally have the necessary funds they can own their own GS.

Limited run so surely that doesn't mean the end of the xr8.

lol its the GT motor with a recallibrated ecu. so easy for a flash tune to bump the limiter back to 6500, make the right inj and fuel tables arangements, and bang you have the full 315kw.

The GS on the sides just looks too retro IMO. Should be more modern in a way.
