Yes, as far as I understand all are illegal.

Id much rather yuo stopping for the light than racing it to be honest; I live in this city and value my life.

Of course there are the ones you can say its a toss up to go thru; generally if your not taking a big enough risk to make yourself think "jeez that was stupid" then you shouldnt get a flash unless you speed up over the limit to make the light..

If you dont like the lights move to the country haha!

i think red light cameras are a good idea
its an extremely dangerous thing to do
the number of near misses i've seen by people running red lights is scary
not only that, but the fact they usually speed up makes it worse

Isnt there a GPS system for warning you when approaching fixed speed and red light camera's. I don't see how that can be illegal as the information is made public one way or another.

There is a few I believe.
The only one I can think of is the 'Road Angel'.
Has a stored memory of fixed speed and redlight cameras, construction and school zones.
I think you can update it by flashing it from there website.
Pretty pointless but IMO.
The only roads I ever speed on aren't ever going to have fixed speed cameras.
edit: I missed the point. I'm 99% sure they are legal.

I may be wrong so correct me if i am but i am under the impression in NSW now they have and are trialling a new system which is both good and bad at the same time, for Red light cameras to come equipped with a speed camera attached so if u speed up to miss the yellow then u get done for the sppeding side..

kinda brutal isnt it..i heard talk of it and i saw this one speed camera with this hell attachment added to it but somehow it got smashed down about 10 times now.

In Canberra all intersection cameras are dual red light and speed camera's.

most of the ones in metro adelaide that are red light cameras are also speed cameras...

i dont like red light cameras, they tend to cause rear end crashes...ive been behind people who have been a few metres before the stopping line at an intersection doing 60, and locked up their brakes because the light has gone yellow, in this situation its legal to continue through...but due to paranoia of being flashed they lockup dangerously when they should continue through...

Yeah 'Road Angel' and the like (GPS systems with fixed camera locations marked) are all legal.

Detectors are not. (except the westeners over in WA).

Amber light - Stop unless it is unsafe to do so!

The radar detectors are illegal, but the uniden gps or sat nav systems that warn you arent.
As they dont detect radar signals, teh map companies just program in the location of teh fixed cameras by there long & lat co-ords!
The red light camera's and fixed speed cameras down here in vic most operate by sensors in the rd, you will see a couple lines in the rd where the camera is pointing, they use piezo sensors to measure speed.
Also with the new ones there is no point attacking them after they have flashed you as they are a basically a pc with a digital camera running windows xp. once the photo is taken it then sends the picture with info to Vic Police
