2 different things i reckon, adventura is a gravel road car, territory is a4wd, (in that version) although a soft roader

personally i reckon the territory and adventra are pretty similar in what you'd use them for, both are soft roaders, and IMO neither are worth a pinch of s**t (if you want a 4x4, buy a landcruiser, landrover or patrol)

but that said, the territory seems to be a better platform

The Territory looks more like a proper 4WD, where the Adventura has an image more of a Subura Forester or soemthing.
Can't say I'm rushing out for either.

If someone gives me a Territory I won't be complaining it isn't a Landcruiser or Patrol, for a start is will be quicker, nicer to drive, cheaper to run and do the type of off road driving I would want to do.

More than two thirds of the tossers that own real 4WD's don't go anywhere where a Territory wouldn't go and of those 2/3s there would be lucky to be one of them that has been off road enough to really validate why they need a 4wd at all.

they are also marketed differently, the Adventura is a AWD Commodore, and the Territory is trying not to be a Falcon.

No I dont think it is. Its targeted at a totally different segment of the market. If it were trying to be a Falcon they would of stuck the Territory running gear under a Falcon.

I agree, I don't think Ford are trying to market the Territory and Falcon as the same thing. Originally I heard that the Falcon station wagon's will be fased out and the Territoy RWD will be it's replacement, but I don't think that'd be a smart move at all, and it doesn't seem as though there doing it anyway.

ahh but it doesn't need to be a falcon if it is the same shape ... think about it, slightly smaller than a big 4wd cruiser/rover etc does nearly the same job, but soo much easier for wife to drive kids to and from school and pick up 37 bags of groceries. Isn't that what the wagon is for, now she can go 4wd when she shops, just like in the Canyonero!!!

Ford are not pushing the Territory to compete with Landcruiser, Patrol etc It is a crossover vehicle, that is part way between a station wagon and a 4WD. Its for those people who don't intend to go bush, but have a need for something that has some off road capablites.

I personally don't like the Adventurer, to me its a jacked up comodore wagon. Where as the Territory is 'similar' to a facon, but much different

Actually, there is talk of Ford making the Terrtiory to be competition with proper 4WD's aswell! Here's the quote from Carsguide:

Quote:
He [Ford chief Tom Gorman ]said Ford was also considering a diesel variant and a "proper off-road" four-wheel-drive version of the Territory with a low range.

Now that'd be cool!

of course they are - they would love for someone to go "nah, a big 4wd is just too big and expensive, I know - lets look at the territory as an option!"

It would nice to see Ford put in the Land Rover's deisel engine with it's six speed auto. It would certainly make it more economical in fuel and with the stats of the engine I've read it would have more pulling power than a Landcruiser.

Ford would be selling plenty to the grey nomads as they move from mexico (damn southerners) to the tropics with their caravans.
