firstly this is prob better off in off topic kinda
why are you driving over to adelaid ive done it before, you can either go on the great ocean road (beautiful but lots of corners and it takes longer) or you can go on the great western highway, pretty boring trip but it only takes around 8 hours, you might wanna get that air cond checked out to caus it will most likely be f**king hot this time of the year. |

Do most of the servos along the way sell LPG? All the ones up to Ballarat do That's the furthest west I've been!

well if u have one tank of petrol and one of gas and take the great western highway you should almost be able to make it without stopping. i would imagine ballarat probably ballarat ararat (spelling?) horsham and murray bridge would all have gas somewhere

Hey twr7cx
I've done the Melbourne to Adelaide cruise around 26 times in the last few years and taken the Western Highway route all the time. My dual fuel EL usually uses about a tank of gas and half of petrol one way. LPG is available at most of the bigger towns out of Melbourne to Horsham, then theres gas at Nhill, Bordertown, Keith, Murray Bridge and Tailem Bend... however, expect to pay around 10 -15 cents more a litre than in Melbourne. The last time I did this trip, about 4 weeks ago, it was $110 return.. cheaper than flying. Most of the times I've driven over I've left after 7pm and found traffic basically non existant other than a spattering of trucks, and the few times I've driven over thru daylight have been hell..most likely my bad luck. As said before.. hell boring trip.. unless you love looking at farms, farms, small towns and farms just for s**t and giggles. Allow 8 - 9 hours to include food and loo stops and you're cruising. Enjoy |

Enjoy i did a return trip from adelaide to melbourne and back to adelaide a few months ago... be careful of the bogan vl calais drivers just outside of melton... be careful of the winds between ballarat and arrarat they have a habit of blowing you towards oncoming road trains..lol gas is available in most cities along the way, as stated above, but its always good to keep a reserve of fuel if possible... most truck drivers are cool along the way, although you get a***hole ones that speed up as soon as you try and overtake (goddamn speed limiter ) pack food and drink if possible, cos the servos along the way will charge you an arm and a leg... and have some coolant/oil etc with you, and make sure your spare is ok too once you pass murray bridge, you will enter the freeway to adelaide... and its a fairly steep decline, take it easy down there especially if the weather has been going hot-cold-hot-cold because it will be foggy to the point where visibility is about 20m overall the trip is long, boring, hot, and tedious...theres f**k all scenery worth looking at, and the only fun to be had is overtaking cars and trucks it can take upto 10 hours if you take heaps of breaks, or as little as 6 hours if your a f**k mental case (wasnt me), but the median seems to be about 8-9hours p.s. Veridian, next time you do the adelaide-> melbourne, im driving.... are you scared yet?

That comment made my day. I recommend you don't actually drive IN to Melton then.

Easy drive, not that far at all. Should be plenty of LPG available, although I cant say I've ever looked for it. Twr7cx, I thought I read that you dont have petrol connected anymore, straight gas? If that's the case, a full tank of petrol is only ballast to degrade your economy, and my next suggestion of taking a jerry can just in case is just as futile!
