I think Ford have wanted to get rid of the Falcon for a long time. The marketing team killed the Falcon.

So what does all this mean to those who have a Falcon when its time to trade up.
Not sure you going to get a good trade in price from a Holden dealer!!! Is the time NOW to get rid of your Falcon ? I wonder.... MITCHY

Quote: This is why Ford will cease manufacturing in Australia... Ford had intended developing the Falcon with left hand drive export potential, and received federal and state government grants to assist, but in October 2007 it was announced by Ford Australia that the left-hand-drive Falcon project was to be abandoned and the export incentive grant money would be directed to construction of the Ford Focus small-car in Australia. In the end, the Focus project did not proceed and Asia-Pacific production of that model was instead started at a new plant in Thailand in June 2012 (with Australian Govt. money given to them for an Australian built Falcon).. As the FG Falcon utilizes much of the previous model's architecture, converting it to left hand drive would have been a costly and time consuming process. Ford were also offered further government assistance to assist exporting the Falcon and Territory, but refused.. The market is too small to have a wholly Australian designed, built and sold car. Without exports, neither company can survive. Holden has chosen to export cars and parts. Ford has decided to export their factories instead, never to return. Ford AUST will stop because thats what Ford USA wants. When the AU was submited for approval two body style where submitted to the US for approval. The shape that we got as the AU and what later became the BA. Ford US wanted the AU shape because it was closer to the Taurus, because the plan was and still is, to kill the falcon and sell the taurus here instead. The AU flopped because is was ugly at the time, They knew we STILL wouldn't buy the Taurus so they had to keep the falcon going. It took longer then the US had hopped but it's now going to happen, the falcon can't sustain it self and the Taurus isn't such an ugly car anymore. The time is right too pull Ford AUST and complete the move to the global products. They might call it a falcon this time, after the FG well handed the Taurus. Unless the falcon starts selling 20 000/year |
