I dont think an I6 would run nice on half cylinders. They run beautifully on 6 as they are naturally balanced.
V6 is crap as they are not balanced and require balance shafts.

they are not running on half cylinders

they cylinders are shut down in a specific sequence over time

i think u will find it be like 2 cylinders will not fire at a time...

the siully thing is ford has the tech to do it
they do it in the AU falcons if it overheats

1.5litre 4 cylinder Holden Commodore FTW :P
it would also give us a good excuse to tell them to get the little 1 litre crap off the road lol

Why would cylinder deactivation have any
effect on max power ratings @ WOT?

well for one, a different cam would be required

why would a new cam be needed?

F*#k if i new but it says in the article

"
Quote:
Mr Tamburrini says different camshafts and exhaust tuning were required to accommodate the cylinder deactivation system, resulting in the reduced power and torque figures.

thats very true, i dont think it will be hard at all since theyv used similar technology in au, and even fg launch control is used by deactivating 3 cylinders "i think" to generate boost

It will be interesting to see how this effects sprint times for the V8.

Don't care about the V6 - it's an underdone, horrible little boat anchor of a motor.

I think if holden starts marketing cyl deactivation, ford would be nuts not to point out that their engine has better economy on 6cyl than the dunnydore has on 4.. AND more power than the dunnydore running on all 6.

In short, all they need to say in an add...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Falcon has nearly 30 horsepower more than the new commodore.
Falcon gives you 5% better economy while doing it.
General Motors might go bust and have to sell or liquidate Holden.
Busting makes me feel good!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

If the new falcon really does pull ahead in both power and economy by those figures.. it has to hurt holden sales which would no doubt help Ford and the Aurion which has 200 killer wasps. (but again from memory worse economy than the falcon.)
