Ford has marked the 50th anniversary of its first Mustang with a limited-edition tribute to the 1964 original. The 50 Year Limited Edition Mustang revealed at the 2014 New York motor show builds on the 2015 Mustang GT with design details that hark back to the first pony car. Chrome trim on the grille, windows and tail-lamps are a nod to the original Mustang, along with louvered rear quarter windows, a large faux fuel filler cap and 50-year badging. It should offer stirring performance thanks to a 5.0-litre, 313kW V8 engine. But the car will not go on sale locally, with Ford Australia spokesman Neil McDonald confirming that all 1964 examples of the car will be sold exclusively in North America. The Blue Oval’s hero car will arrive in Australia in 2015 as a replacement of sorts for the soon-to-be-discontinued FPV Falcon GT. McDonald says it is too early to say whether Ford Australia would introduce a limited edition car of its own. As part of the 50th anniversary celebrations for the company's icon, Ford sliced a new Mustang into bits and rebuilt it overnight on the viewing deck of the Empire State Building. The stunt was a another nod to how Ford introduced the Mustang at the World Fair in New York in 1964. source: smh.com.au
