are we expecting to really see a awd platform? mistubishi gave it a go with the magna for a bit & it failed. ford also tried rebadging the 323's in the late 80's & early 90's with the tx series
I can't really see an AWD platform replacing a rwd setup. it'll be more expensive than rwd & more of a niche thing for a while yet

Of those 8 million, about 100,000 of them buy a new car for private use each year. Of that 100,000. About 10,000 would consider a Ford and only a few of those would consider a Falcon. Where's your fame now? Culturally it is a big loss but sales wise, they'll make up their lost ground within 5 years easy. By the end of the decade, they'd have more new customers than they ever would dream of if they kept the old platform. As for V8's that can lose cylinders, you only really need the grunt when you put your foot down. And as for it sounding like a buzzbox when in 4cyl mode, look at what chrysler did with their bimodal exhaust on their 5.7 hemi's. Some of you people need a bit of a technical education instead of rehashing the same s**t as your mate bazz the bonghead and treating that as gospel. |

SIDI, AFM, they sound fancy but do nothing to affect the fuel consumption. Melbourne to Sydney on one tank, did the test driver actually use the accelerator pedal or power the car with hopes and dreams? And why the HELL would you buy a V8 that ran on 4 cylinders? if you want power, you need to use fuel to obtain it. if you want to hug the trees, save the whales and keep the spiderwebs out of your wallet, lose some cylinders. The Barra 6 is a great engine thats powered australian families and car enthusiasts for a long time. like any large-ish engine, it doesn't mind a drink, but what you get out the other end is power and torque that can't be replicated by some hair dryers strapped onto a ricer engine. long live the 4.0L I6. smart cars are not able to be fitted with a towbar and any that are, are illegal

This thread makes me laugh.
Obviously everyone would rather see no Falcon being built in Australia than one that has a diverse range of engines. Just because they offer a 2 litre turbo 4 banger or a diesel for fleet sales etc. doesnt necessarily mean there wont be a 4 litre or V8 available. Someone also mentioned AWD wont take off because ford tried it with lasers and mitsubuishis tried it with magnas and it didnt work. I'm not sure if yoyu are aware, but Holden tried Commodores with turbo sixes in the mid 80's and that didnt work, so obviously a turbo 6 Falcon wont work either. Nissan sell Patrols with 3 litre 4 cylinder diesels, and they get sold, and there are plenty of cars with less power to weight than an ecoboost falcon would surely have, and they sell cars too. Who knows, if Ford updated the engines so they met all worldwide laws, they might even be able to sell Falcons overseas, and guarantee the future outside of this little backwater we call Australia. Hell Hyundai can do it, surely Ford can too. (sell cars all over the world, not a million different spec levels) |

An AWD familly sedan or ute is still a niche vehicle. Holden tried it, and do they still sell crewman cross 8's and Adventura's? Of course not. A few people that bought those vehicles brand new whinged to me at the 20+ litres/100kms best fuel consumption figures. A petrol patrol would probably beat that. A TD v8 78 series cruiser would definitely beat that and it would be the way to go if you want a brand new 4x4 ute (or a gu ute). But then again people don't want to have to wait up to 12 months from deposit to delivery for a new car.
And what about the coupe'4? I don't know what killed it but I'm thinking that it was heavy, it was expensive, it was agricultural and unrefined, and it was slower than the 2wd model. If the Ford system is as refined and cheap to manufacture as the subaru or European systems then it will sell like hot cakes. Its its a clunky expensive slow old heavy dunger like what holden tried, the Ford AUS will almost certainly close its doors within 3 years of its release. |

(sell cars all over the world, not a million different spec levels) that will never happen - ford australia is stuck in the middle of a ford europe / ford US model sandwhich - sales of falcon/territory would eat into existing sales of european/american models (even though im quite sure with the high gas prices the yanks are seeing a falcon utility would be a good alternative for a lot of people to american style trucks)

Maybe once the yanks finally realise that their life of excess is unsustainable, a ute of some description would be an ideal vehicle for them rather than a 6000lb+ pickup truck. |

Because fords competitors are selling equally compromised products but yet they are selling like hotcakes compared to Ford's sales. We can b**ch, whinge, pettition and protest all we want but the sales figures never lie.
