Hi All,

I have 2 X Aerpro stiffening capacitors up for sale - the are 1 Farad each...they have been sprayed silver (but this can be easily removed) - they originally looked like this :

They have been sitting in my cupboard for most of their livees (only 1 of them was fitted in my first system a few years ago).

Unsure if they can be sent through the post as I can not remember if they are discharged or not - might be dangerous to send ? *shrugs*.

Price $100 each

Thanks & Cheers,
Steve

I heard they can charge themselves up through static electricity in the air, so they will may well have charge in them by now if they been sitting around for a year.

How can you remove the silver? Did you notice any difference when you ran the two caps together?

Hiya LG,

I actually never ran 2 together...I never got around to it ! A mate of mine with a similar setup to me at the time ran two 1 farad caps and had no problems with dimming interior dash / headlights...so in my eyes they served their purpose - but he also had a yellow top battery as well.

As for the silver, it could be removed with some light sanding...it is not difficult to remove...I do think the silver looks good though (I will post a pic when I get my digicam back from a mate).

Cheers,
Steve

A stiffening capacitor (aka power cap) is a Car audio component designed to provide power during times of peak load. The large capacitor acts as a dampener for the audio power system.

In high power audio applications the amplifier can require more current than can be supplied by the car battery, because of the battery's discharge characteristics. The slow power delivery can result in poor sound quality, dimming of the car's lights, or other electrical shortfalls. For audio applications that only require short bursts of power, such as a thumping bass line, it is more economical to install a power cap than to upgrade the car's electrical system.

The power cap, usually 1 or 2 farads, is connected in parallel between the battery and the amplifier. Multiple capacitors can be connected with busbars to reduce resistance and power loss.

Capactiors charge and discharge rapidly, much faster than a battery could. It can only hold a small charge, so a single bass hit can empty it completely. It charges back up when there isn't a large power demand. This makes it inappropriate for systems that will require prolonged delivery of power, as the capacitor cannot supply additional power, only store it temporaraly.

If not connected up properly, they shoot off like a rocket...often when pointed at BA Fairmont Ghias too - so beware ! :P

BUMP - how's this :

* 2 X 1 Farad Aerpro caps
* 2 X 1 Farad Streetwires caps
* 2 X Stinger Bus bars
* Generous lengths of 4 guage

$250

4 Farads of capacitance for $250 is damn good IMHO.

Will also personally deliver to anyone in the Melbourne Metro / suburbia.
