how much worse does fuel economy get? is it quite noticeable?

you don't get more performance without using more fuel. It added about 2.3L/100 to my average.

ouch...i already average around 12.5...

Ah well...I guess the money would be better spent on getting the diff looked at (LOUD whine) then the T5 (engaging 1st & reverse can be hard and 1st to 2nd is horrible)...
