Mine sent off too Amber ?
I bought some black vinyl spray yesterday to spray my centre pad to match Now if I can just replace the wheel without my airbag going off I'll be set! lol

I beleive its almost impossible to set them off while removing/installing them, though I still point them away from me when I carry them

All you need is: battery disconnected, wait 2 min at least, pop two small covers off the back of the airbag cover at the sides near the indicator stalks.
Undo the two bolts in you will see after removing the covers and then lift air bag "pack" and unplug it. Then pull horn pads out, unscrew cruise control screws and other screws holding backing onto the wheel. Use large torx bit to undo center main screw/bolt, bit tough at 1st if this is your 1st time dont remove bolt completely leave it so its JUSt still threaded in so when you pull wheel off it doesnt hit you in the face. Then wiggle the steering wheel side, ie: hold at 9 and 3 o'clock and wiggle it till a bit loose, then 12 and 6 o'clock and repeat to wheel is off. The wheel should stop coz you left the center tox bolt in a little and not hit you, once its loose just remove the center torx bolt completely and walah! To put wheel on is same procedure but reversed, just make sure the wheel is TIGHTLY on the columb, i suggest a small mallet to hit the cente part of the wheel over the knob it sits on, very easy and works great! Hope that helps someone.

Ive changed wheels about 8 times or more now (dont ask) and havnt had this or any other problem as of yet.

Do you have to actually disconnect the battery ? Can't you just remove the airbag fuse? I guess it's better to be on the safe side rather than have it go off in my face!
Yes, I'm probably a bit over paranoid about them going off but if you knew the luck I seem to have around cars...

Put it this way, its litterly safer to play it safe when toying around with airbags.. id rather be sure than sorry.
You could remove the fuse, but what happens if for some reason someone removes the wrong one or just forgets or something.. just d/c the battery n play it safe IMHO. Also AU use torx screws thru the whole unit apparently, whereas ef/el use normal screws with one large (T50?) torx screw.
