I know an AU motor will fit into an ED with Some EL electronics, EL electrics match up to ED electrics, this is the wonder of E series.

You are much better off putting a AU HP from series 1 AU ghia or xr6 motor in,XR6 HP standard equipment (over Futura)

# 4.0 litre 'HP' straight six featuring:
# 164 kW @ 5000 rpm.
# 366 Nm @ 3150 rpm.

If your up for the challenge there are a few guys on here that could help you put a a series 3 AU XR6 VCT engine in,

XR6 VCT standard equipment over XR6 HP

* 4.0 litre SOHC I6 with Variable Cam Timing.
* 172 kW @ 5000 rpm.
* 370 Nm @ 3500 rpm

Or go to your wreckers and pick up a stock AU motor with a warrenty (normally 3months) for about $200 to $300 with low K's for a straight bolt in job.
