The XR8 get the attention around town, Fuel consumption isn't as bad as what everyone says it is compared to the XR6T. Sound is amazing and close to beating God in a sing off. and they are both reasonably close in the power stakes.
You'll find that even the V8 feels a little lagging down low though. As Downingj said, have a look around at a few and take a few for a decent test drive and get a feel for both of the cars. They are both excellent. I got the XR8 purely because I wanted something special and had a V8. |

I've had little kids (and old ones too), point and stare, some yell 'burnout burnout' (no lie), and some little tike, like 5yo or something, point and say 'GT! GT!'.
Very cool.

v8's for the soul 6T's for the speed.
I'd go the 8 and wouldn't look back! Why spend money winding up the boost etc on the 6 when you can save your cash and have a blown 8 that will eat it for breakfast AND have more potential for mods in the future as well. Haha i get the older guys with looks of shock (car looks like a grandpa spec mercedes) at first then approval, it's a twin 2.25" system with no cats, deep loud old skool v8 noise lol.

stock for stock you'd be hard pressed to split them in performance in everyday driving.
mate of mine has a charged ba xr8 making over 300rwkw. (330 @ kpm, 320 @ clipsal shootout) and all up its cost less than 10k. xr6t's running that sort of power wouldn't of had a lot less money spent to get it there. for me its personal preference. can't beat the v8 for me. those that bag the boss have either never driven one or have unrealistic expectations.

I was curious as to which would be better, I'd like to get the V8 for its famous rumble but I already got a cleveland for that so I would got for the turbo. never driven one but been a passenger in a stock turbo VL bombodore and it felt impressive. On the downside for me, to be able to get a new car I would have to claim the hail damage on my car and insurance would most likely write it off.

You really have to ask yourself what you want the car for whether it be the 6cyl or V8. My brother loves the thrill of that turbo boost. The problem with that is that you need moderate foot pressure on the gas pedal most of the time. That can be risky business.
On the other hand, personally I love both my windsor and modular V8s, I don't need to give them a bootfull to get pleasure from them. Both are quicker than stock but I love driving around town with the windows wound down listening to the sweet sound. Ford lovers are truely blessed to have the best of both worlds!! |

What if you were looking at this as a second-hand purchase sort of deal, though? A lot of xr6t's are being sold with around 100,000km's on them now.
I know a fair few of those jap cars (without turbo timers) pick up turbo issues after about 100,000km's. Are the falcons as bad? Would it be smart to only look at cars with turbo timers? What about the 8's, any common faults they tend to pick up with age?
