XR6 Turbos dont require a turbo timer, as they thermosyphon after the engine has been switched off. although it is still a good idea to let it idle to cool down for a bit if you have been giving it a hiding, a turbo timer is not a necessity. the only real issue is if the metal oil lines get blocked due to poor maintainence...

How's that supposed to happen, both the oil and water pumps are mechanically driven (crank for oil and pulley for water). Engine off stops both.

Don't need a turbo timer, just don't turn it straight off if you've been giving it a flogging, so the turbo isn't still red hot.
If you shut it off while the turbo is red hot, any oil still in the turbo will bake on. They cool down alot quicker then older turbos because they are water cooled. If I've been on boost up the hill to my place, I will idle it down for 30seconds to a minute before I turn it off. But then I've never shut any of my cars straight off after flogging them, it's just mechanical sympathy and commonsense really.

Little harder when you go up hill to get home, but for me it's about 1.4KM of slight downhill to home, so end of the trip is certainly easy on the cooling system.

If you only ever want 350 at the rears, it can be done cheaper with a CAPA blower kit (~4k). Those whipple/kenne bell etc. twins screw chargers while more expensive, are good for so much more output wise (and you'd spend similar big bucks getting a 6T to 500RWKW as you would a BOSS).

I have read this topic and i am a bit yes and no..
a turbo six will wear componants quicker then a v8, a tuned turbo will eat a standard v8 but a full tuned v8 will devour a turbo.

I'm still torn as to what I would buy. Nothing beats that v8 rumble, and an N/A engine just seems like it would maintain it's reliability a little better than turbo-six. Petrol usage would play a big role in the decision - don't really want to have to fill up anymore frequently than i do now. I know it's got to do with how you drive it, but when I drive more sensibly, I don't want it to still totally devour the fuel.
When it comes down to it, it'll probably end up being whichever is in stock for the best price at the time I go to buy it. All I can do for now is dream...

I will be waiting till ford cans the modular before I purchase another V8 from them.
Having to put a blower on a bent 8 to keep up is nothing new (i did on my EF ) but as a package the BA/BF/FG are a tidy car all round and neither motors are slouches. I do admit though, the only reason i never traded up to a BA/BF was the fact the XR8's weighed too much for my liking and 14 second timeslips didnt cut it for me. the Turbo 6 had the grunt, but i'd rather a roar than a flutter. The worst part was down the track modifications, a flash tune, CAI and exhaust was enough to hit the wall. After that it was big dollars to upgrade to a blower or an angry NA combo. Thats where the LS motors have it over the ford 8's, but i still wont switch as the cars are crud in general.

i was having this problem to but i came to realize yer the v8 rumble is awsome but after i took the 6t for a spin i was happy with the outcome yer the v8 will put you into the seat straight away from a stand still but with the feel of an 6t from start you get kicked into the seat and when the turbo kicks in it pushes you in just that little more it feels like it craves more for punishment than a v8

only thing i have really felt different to the 2 is the XR8 feels heavier and more stable, but i did get a major hard when i took the XR6T for test run too
