oh no..... i did all this research before i baught my BF XR6 Turbo.. info is redily available...!!!!!!
#xrt will be faster (stock vs stock) #better fuel consumption.. #lighter overall weight and better handling.. #easy power being "factory boosted with a turbo rated at 700hp a twin cam head.. 4 valves per cylinder and a strong bottom end and many decade's of i6 research done.. um... xr8 sounds better!... |

I will back up "fordfreak." Everything points towards buying the Turbo. Its lighter and is able to change direction much easier. It is also the easiest to modify for significant gains.
In saying all that i would still choose the XR8 for the sound alone. There is just something about a V8......I nearly got one but my NA XR6 came up at an unbeatable price completely optioned. At the end of the day though its your choice. I prefer the naturally aspirated cars because the power is much more predictable, but if you want one hell of a ride then go the turbo for sure.

Ummmm... XR6T for sure!! Spend a few grand in the right places and you'll be runnibg low 12's down the 1/4 and have 300rwkW!! And everything under the bonnet will look stock (depending on what direction you go with mods)

Thing is.. are the XR6T power from the start? or do you have to wait for the turbo to kick in? |

Thing is.. are the XR6T power from the start? or do you have to wait for the turbo to kick in? Well I start making boost at 1800rpm which is when the power starts, I have full boost (15.5psi) by about 2500rpm, thats when things start to get serious and anything you had laying in your centre console is now in the back seat!! But there still responsive when there not making boost! And there's no "turbo lag" to really speak of.. Mind you my car has been tuned, But even the car was factory there was no "waiting for the turbo to kick in" Easiest way to find out is to take one for drive..

Man this topic has been done to death. I disagree with the lag thing though, the standard car does have turbo lag and the tune generally makes it worse. Nothing like what you get in a skyline or rex etc though.

I drove my mates XR6T which was tuned to 254rwkW and the lag wasn't bad at all. When driving along if you put you foot down you could hear the turbo spool for a small moment and then it was just this huge serge of power. The tail got loose and then snapped back and off you went. Its an insane car.
Though i have driven the Boss 290 GT and i have to say that i personally prefered its power delivery. In saying that it just seemed to suit my driving style better and everyone will be different. There is no right or wrong answer just test drive them both and see for yourself.

Go the XR6T. It definatly wont sound like a V8, But will save you in fuel, handle better and beat it most importantly. Small mods will make a big difference. Turbo lag in most modern cars is very minimal. Unless its a small engine in poor tune with big turbo. Some very quick xr6t`s around.

It's about the 'experience' of a V8. If you want a rocket that's cheap to mod, go the turbo. (or for the best of both worlds blow the V8)

thats an easy one - a hard one for me would be a XR6T or a LS2.
Ford - Where the Build quality is as appalling as our v8s performance.

You want to know what the best thing to do is?
If your genuine and you are actually going out to purchase either an XR8 or an XR6T; test drive them BOTH first. Make sure you take them both for a spin on your favourite bit of black-top. Take your time. If possible, make sure both have the transmission you want. And make your decission from there. Don't base it on what other people like. Base it on what YOU like and what YOU want out of your car. I purchased an XR6T without test driving an XR8 based on what I read in mags, what the general consesus was on both vehicles and the fact that my old man's XR6T was an absolute weapon and, while I love my Turbo to death, there's this niggling feeling that I really should have taken an XR8 for a test drive as well... |
