I have 235/45/r17 on all fours and wondering what tyre pressures are best for launching.

my first attempt at drags i still had the road pressure 42psi and spun the wheels.

Is it a compromise between good launch and top speed, or just a waste of time. (i'm not going to buy different tyres like slicks either)

Try dropping the pressure down to say 38 and do a run on that. If your still breaking traction, try 35 and so on. Best not to go too low or you'll bog down a bit.

Drop it to 32, go down from there, I found anything lower then about 24 is counter productive, with a street radial anyway.

And there's no point in doing a burnout in a single spinner, because its just gonna spin the cold tyre anyway? correct?

(but i have noticed that it always goes for the right tyre on burnout, so If I do one, that might confuse it and grip it)

but yeah i saw in another thread that doing a burnout in a single spinner is laughed at anyway.
thoughts. cheers

Drive around the water/burnout pit.

Street tyres, don't get stickier when smoked up, they generally go greasy (i.e. worse).

Yeah drive around with a single pegger, it's just annoying at the drags when someone with a single pegger does a burnout, because their other tyre ends up dragging water out of the pit, which reeks havoc on other C*** with stock ford LSDs

What car is this? mods etc?
Because if it's manual or anything with a decent amount of power the SS is gonna be holding you back, no matter how much playing with tyre pressure you do.

I was playing round with tyre pressures a bit the other week, and found that about 34 psi hooked up pretty well compared to the 40psi I run normally in my 235/45/17s. Anything over 40 I found I could just bake the rears with minimal effort, and much below 32 psi just felt sloppy, and no doubt bad for the tryes.
This wasnt on the strip mind you, just down the street mucking round.

i was driving around the pit, knew burnout wouldnt help me.

My car is an auto six, nothing major. Tighe 826 cam running on factory ecu, not tuned, Intake mods and full mock exhaust, 3.45. My best was 15.881 / 90.58mph (react 0.518, 60ft 2.574)

On another note, whoever picked up that xr6 whole diff from northside wreckers in brisbane a couple of weeks back for $350, you suck!! that had my name written all over it..

I run 24psi with my 18s. The best 60 footer I've got so far is 1.9 sec. That's with 3.73s
