Hi,

I am looking for some advice. I put my standard BF XR6 on the dyno on the weekend and it made 139.0 rwkW. Its a 6 speed manual. I was just wondering if this is a good, average or bad figure compared to others.

One of the guys in a BA XR6 pulled 143, though his car only has 9,000kms on it compared to mine with 80,000 already. If this is a bad figure what can i do to improve it and regain those lost kWs

Cheers
Brett.

140rwkw stock isnt bad considering it takes a few mods to get an eseries up there

And 9,000km's in a BA is very low km's..... hardly driven ?

I am just concearned because the BA has 182kWs and my BF is supposed to have 190kW at the flywheel. So basically it seems like i have lost a substantial amount. I know when its converted to rear wheel it is a much smaller gap.

all the usual mods will see you power and torque increase.
thing like extractors & zorst, CAI and a flash tuner will pickup the power to a more respectable figure.

good luck.

EDIT: your car has alot more ks then your mate and also where they done on the same dyno on the same day?
your results will vary between dynos and also the weather conditions.

That is true, but if i have lost kWs then any other BA/BF the adds exhaust etc will still gain more over me than if mi was to do it. Could it be something like changing my leads and plugs, or some other form of service. The car has full service history but it is getting towards high kms.

The figure you are worried about (135ishRWKW) is what it would be. There is a subtancial drop in power when it travels from the flywheel to the ground - the flywheel figure is much higher and used by motoring companies to make a car lok more powerful than it is; by that i mean the car as a whole, not the power of the engine. The BA engine is the best engine Ford has put into a Falcon and the figures are easily raised with very minor mods.

The KW figure is useless, the RWKW figure is the one you want. A car is useless if it cant transfer the power to the ground.

Do a few mods - cold air intake (larger snorkel and/or secondary intake), exhaust, extractors, ECU chip and tune will have your figures in the high 150s (RWKW) I would imagine. If you want to take it further, go and grab a Turbo setup off one of the other BA XR6Ts. You'll easily be up at the 200-250RWKW mark. With a cam + porting you'll probably be in the 300RWKW zone, a figure that falls just short of double the power you did have at the flywheel!

A bigger turbo, better intake manifold and things of the sort can push you up to around 400RWKW.

How far you want to take it is up to you (and your $$ :P ) but for now, you have nothing to worry about with your figures - just understand that KW and RWKW are 2 VERY DIFFERENT figures. The extra few RWKWs your mate's car has is either due to a different dyno or that it has traveled like 71,000km less than yours - both are as equally as likly as each other.

Enjoy your BA :) I'm probably sitting on 115rwkw or 120rwkw with exhaust, extractors and CAI :?

(That's with an EF and the flywheel KWs are about 157 stock standard)

Bad advice, get off of the interweb.

Seriously the idea is right, a trip to a drag strip will show which car is healthier (if the drivers are just as good).

Don't do it on the roads.

As for the dyno's vary bit - VERY true, if it's not the same dyno on the same day you can't even begin to compare, so don't.

kstevo, stop talking s**t aye.

you think porting and 'a cam' will bring up 50-100rwkw?
and you do realise the BA+ 4Ls are DOHC right?
You wind the boost up/ slap on a bigger turbo, not port the head and add a cam in DOHC turbos.
Also the BA motor isnt the best, how many kw does the FG have?
Also fwkw does not make a car look more powerful than it actually is, and if you'd believe it, its not all about rwkw either, theres something known as the power-to-weight ratio. bit more important than a rwkw figure.

Pretty sure the OP doesn't have a turbo. If so, 139RWKW is appalling (something very wrong)

Yep thats what i meant, deserted road.... as in dragstrip, which is deserted when um ... the other two cars are finished racing, and the lanes are empty therefore deserted

I didnt say he had a turbo, I was simply correcting kstevo.... surprisingly.

140rwkw isnt a bad figure when you've got 180fwkw to play with. a dyno reading or correcting a touch different and you might have 150rwkw on another dyno.

I don't think you have a loss in power 139RWKW's isn't too bad, could be a little down, but not by much.
compared to my EL XR6 it goes as follows
EL- 164FWKW then 105RWKW
BF- 190FWKW then 139RWKW

Running a car on a dyno can vary from day to day with different humidity, heat and even a slight bit through tyre pressures and the type of air filter your using. I wouldn't be worried about that figure at all. Just do a few of the above mentioned mods and see where you can pick up some KW's
