i dunno if you'll be able to cut 2 tenths off, but my technique is to not stall it up, and flash the convertor when you launch.
basically foot on brake, then slam WOT and bring foot off brake quickly after, in a sort of fluid motion. so you aren't just flooring it off the line, but you aren't stalling it up either. if that makes sense sitting there stalling up a stock convertor just makes alot of heat and doesn't gain you anything.

I was stalling it to 1500rpm but only for about 3-4sec so it wouldn't heat up to much. Im getting some Yokohama Advan a048's for my steelies wheels. I notice a fair bit of difference in response between the 19's and the stockies. Cheers

lol I had the same experience with the 3.89/auto combination- stalling just resulted in wheels going around, but very little forward motion. Did you try taking off without any stall at all? Slamming the throttle never helped either, used to push down rather than stomp. You would get maybe a half second of slip then grip. having low profile tyres wont help your grip off the line either.

With that trap speed you should be running into the low 14's I would have thought.

If ya gunna get off the line at heathcote do a decent burnout so the tyre's are sticky, slide the clutch if ya in a manuel as just droppin it will bog the car down, as ive got a ute and i do a 2.1 almost a 2.0 in the 60 and ran thru the back door at 14.51@97.5mph. with 225/60/15 at 20 psi.

Careful with street tyres, too big a burnout will only make things worse - they'll overheat and go oily - slippery. IMHO the best way to get faster off the line, drag slicks. knocked 3 tenths of my times. And they DO like a good solid burnout.

Just finished my first season in Hillclimbs (Tasmania) in a Proton Satria GTi and this guy had some really useful tips that I've used to good effect.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pyyQarSvnJo Now I know he's talking about front wheel drives but I've dragged a few other things too and the principles are similar. |
