This mate of yours must like burning money.

Good on him though.

My dragster cost 20 grand and does mid 9's with a near stock 460 big block, making 420hp. It is so under stressed it will do those times all day every day.

I can imagine this Proton having breakages with all that power going through such smaller drive-line gear.

The thing that is important though is to do what you want to do, not what everyone else says to do. So well done to your mate.

It has cost him decent dollars ... he has made the engine is pretty bulletproof though to handle the power ... the driveline is the weakest link ... he is now awaiting a box from the US (Shep Racing ... their Eagle Talon (Mitsu equivalent ... same engine as EVLJOE) ... he builts bulletproof transmissions and drivelines to handle 7's

www.shepracing.com (2L 4cyl turbo AWD - 7.7@191mph)
http://www.shepracing.com/racecar.php
Also check the link on the front page for the 7.7sec run (in cabin)

He has done a lot of the fabrication himself with the help of a mate who does the welding for him. Engine and driveline (AWD floorpan mods as well) was done in his garage at home ... so he has the satisfaction of doing a lot of the work himself.

Funny thing was he started off with the VR4 engine and FWD ... then upped boost ... then rebuilt the engine ... then the AWD conversion ... and it snowballed from there. Had to go full cage and chute not too long ago .. also fixed driver's seat (non-adjustable) ... ballastic blanket for transmission and tailshaft loops as well.

I guess the quicker you go the more you have to abide by the ANDRA requirements for safety.

I have pics of the busted transfer case ... he did a good job of it though.

His best time is 10.9@125mph.

Galant VR4 turbo engine, EVOIII running gear, GT35R turbo ... 100 shot of NOS. And a hell of a lot of worn involved ... built at home ... sis pretty much all of the work himself.

295kW at all 4 wheels ... no NOS.

His last run he smashed his transfer-case in many pieces.

Power ha been upped again ... and I think he is getting a larger turbo now for it ... looking for 9's ... if he doesn't break anything though

OK .... he has run a PB again:

10.482@137.57mph
1.756 60-footer

I'll try and get the timeslip up here.

Ok

That time is a little slow for the mph though.

Maybe half a second too slow. Although that may be a turbo thing.

Would need to ask him though ... he is on here now ... boostlover is his username.

I think keeping the car in a straight-line off launch ... and keeping traction is a tad hard ... for a light car .. might have babied the start as well .... as last time he raced he blew his transfer case to bits as well.

yeah simon you are right, i did baby it off the line.

the following factors i have to take into consideration.

the tyres are still standard falken street tyres

the drive train cant cope with the abuse until a bit of funds are poured into it, and the best 60 foot i have done to date is 1.58. so in order to make the drivetrain last, i have to baby the 60 footers.

Epitome, without knowing your setup, im sure you are running an auto, where as i am running a manual transmission. if an auto were to be adapted, 9's are an easy task, with the use of the standard tyres still...

2. Car around 1600kg, me about 150 kg's

3. around 300 rwhp

4. Driving skill around 7/10, could use a bit more with the shifting. Take offs were touch and go with traction.

Yeah it is. The drive line is a 466 cube Big Block Ford, Allfast 5200rpm converter, Full manual trans braked C6 by Top Quality Transmissions and a Sommers Bros 9".

We're running high 8's and its making a lazy 600hp. It has more in it yet. Once we strengthen up the bottom end some more, we'll be able to rev past the self imposed 7500rpm limit. The cam is good for 8000rpm. Then we should see 700-750hp and mid 8's.
