why does the tourque of the headbolts matter so much? cant you just go to factory specs?

maybe they loosen... the torque specs from the factory were not intended for use with a turbo

if youve read the article on this car you will know they had big trouble holding the gasket in, they came up with their own torque which had not yet failed, after 40+ 400m runs

Its the head bolts that stretch anyway..Causing head to lift...

Does anyone know what grade the headbolts are? Id be wondering whether getting grade 9 bolts would solve some of the problems or something?

With the expansion and contraction of alloy which is heaps, it breaks down the stretch or elastisity of head bolt..
BUT on high power boost engines the bolts simply stretch and head lifts!!
Often head gasget gets blammed, multy layer metal gagstes helps this issue as they don't blow out..But the issue with head bolt stretch or head lifting is still an issue... Ford have upgraded there head bolts lately anyway and ALWAYS use new head bolts!!! With molly grease under threads and washer...As the alloy tends to grab ....
If you think the 6's have issues the V8's with boost its a real concern 3/8 " bolts and there's four of them....

yes, i realise all that, but, regardless of all the theories involved, using the different settings stopped the gasket blowing problem

We used aftermarket bolts from memory we torqued to 40 Lb then 90 *...With a bloody long 2" bar....

If i was building an engine or had the head off the car,i would use arp head studs...they would be stronger than most bolts...
what about using XR6 turbo head bolts? do they fit?

i rekn the head bolts r metric, so arp is out of the question... dunno bout 6t bolts, ill look into it
